Monthly Spooky: Weird News, Haunting Stories, And Urban Legends Urban Legends Haunted Places

An allegedly unsellable haunted mansion, a bizarre bear impersonator, and the myths surrounding snuff films lead this Monthly Spooky tour through modern fear.

Henrique and Michelle return to the crypt with a mix of strange news, dark humor, and horror-culture history. First comes the chaotic story of someone accused of impersonating a bear, followed by an English mansion whose haunted reputation may be making it impossible to sell. The hosts consider what a frightening property story needs to become folklore—and whether either of them would risk spending a night inside.

The conversation then turns to one of horror media’s most persistent legends: the supposed snuff film. Henrique and Michelle examine how staged shock cinema, rumors of real death on camera, and films such as Faces of Death blurred the boundary between exploitation, urban legend, and documented reality for generations of viewers.

Finally, the episode asks how phones, social platforms, and constant access to disturbing images have changed what scares audiences now. It is an audio roundup of haunted houses, bizarre crime-adjacent headlines, horror-film mythology, and the digital evolution of the macabre.

The episode’s range comes from the contrast among Haunted Mansions, Bear Impersonators, Snuff-Film Myths & Digital Horror, with each topic introduced clearly before the hosts turn to its stranger implications and cultural afterlife.

1
00:00:00.720 --> 00:00:03.680
The folly of pretending to be a bear, but not

2
00:00:03.799 --> 00:00:08.039
to steal picnic baskets. A mansion in England so haunted,

3
00:00:08.160 --> 00:00:11.000
no one seems to want to buy it, and who

4
00:00:11.039 --> 00:00:15.439
could possibly commit a cold blooded murder on film for profit?

5
00:00:16.000 --> 00:00:19.199
Get comfort, Turn off the lights.

6
00:00:19.480 --> 00:00:25.519
It's monthly spooky.

7
00:00:27.120 --> 00:00:34.600
Well, hello, my spookies. Yes, indeed, it is that time

8
00:00:34.960 --> 00:00:42.960
of the month. That's our catchphrase, whether we like it

9
00:00:43.039 --> 00:00:47.439
or not. I'm your I'm your host Enrique Kuto here

10
00:00:47.439 --> 00:00:52.719
with my good buddy co host and crying anime aficionado

11
00:00:53.840 --> 00:00:55.520
Michelle Michelle, how are you?

12
00:00:56.320 --> 00:00:57.000
I don't know.

13
00:00:58.880 --> 00:01:03.159
That's that? Is there? Answer? Y, Michelle? You just had

14
00:01:03.200 --> 00:01:07.799
a big, a big moment your podcast, Michelle explains anime

15
00:01:07.959 --> 00:01:12.439
poorly just wrapped up the final episode of Banana Fish,

16
00:01:12.480 --> 00:01:16.920
which is your favorite anime of all time. Apparently apparently,

17
00:01:18.159 --> 00:01:24.040
and it just published this previous Thursday. Yeah so, but uh,

18
00:01:24.640 --> 00:01:29.719
I watched Banana Fish and really enjoyed it. I'm excited

19
00:01:29.719 --> 00:01:31.519
to I haven't listened to your final episode yet, but

20
00:01:31.519 --> 00:01:34.159
I've been promised it's almost exclusively crying.

21
00:01:34.519 --> 00:01:37.200
It's crying at least half of it. Like there is

22
00:01:37.239 --> 00:01:40.599
a spot where I go, like I audibly go like,

23
00:01:40.640 --> 00:01:44.000
oh God, change of tone, and then I just start crying.

24
00:01:46.760 --> 00:01:48.959
So I tried to cut out a lot of those

25
00:01:49.000 --> 00:01:52.359
sniffs because it just seemed like you might not want

26
00:01:52.359 --> 00:01:57.280
to hear that. But there's definitely like crying sounds throughout, so.

27
00:01:57.959 --> 00:02:00.280
Well, it's kind of you to cut out the sniffs, not.

28
00:02:00.239 --> 00:02:04.599
All of them, just the ones I thought were really repetitive, just.

29
00:02:04.599 --> 00:02:06.920
The just the I kept the cream of the crop

30
00:02:07.040 --> 00:02:11.439
of Yeah, yeah, okay, I can appreciate that. Well, if

31
00:02:11.759 --> 00:02:15.439
those listening are fans of anime and would like to

32
00:02:15.479 --> 00:02:18.159
hear Michelle's podcast, I do recommend they check it out

33
00:02:18.800 --> 00:02:21.560
wherever you get your podcasts at Michelle you just type

34
00:02:21.560 --> 00:02:26.400
in Michelle explains anime poorly, and uh, you've been doing

35
00:02:26.400 --> 00:02:28.560
it for quite a while now, you've covered I think

36
00:02:28.639 --> 00:02:32.719
seven series. Is that so fun? Correct, Well, there's seven seasons.

37
00:02:32.960 --> 00:02:35.240
Okay, so I guess there's there's seven anime.

38
00:02:35.560 --> 00:02:35.800
Yeah.

39
00:02:35.840 --> 00:02:41.439
We did chainsaw Man, We've done ten Goku, Daimachio, We've

40
00:02:41.479 --> 00:02:46.080
done oh that really bad try Gun reboot that I hate.

41
00:02:46.840 --> 00:02:51.280
We've done like uh oh Windbreaker, and then I don't

42
00:02:51.319 --> 00:02:53.639
remember any of the other ones right now.

43
00:02:54.080 --> 00:02:59.080
That's okay, buddy, oh zero, yeah, yeah, yeah zero. I

44
00:02:59.120 --> 00:02:59.960
love that season.

45
00:03:00.360 --> 00:03:03.080
It's really good, and the second season is totally fine,

46
00:03:03.120 --> 00:03:06.039
and the third season's been okay so far.

47
00:03:07.319 --> 00:03:09.879
Well ree zero was the first anime I ever watched.

48
00:03:09.919 --> 00:03:13.000
You showed it to me. Yeah, And I really enjoyed

49
00:03:13.000 --> 00:03:16.439
those first two seasons. I've seen all of the second season. Yeah,

50
00:03:16.479 --> 00:03:19.319
yea yeah yeah yeah, so no, I really enjoyed it,

51
00:03:19.319 --> 00:03:21.280
and I really enjoy the podcast, and I enjoy the

52
00:03:21.280 --> 00:03:24.280
fact that, in many ways you have a podcast basically

53
00:03:24.719 --> 00:03:29.360
due to bullying, Like like I like soft bullied you

54
00:03:29.479 --> 00:03:31.879
into starting it, and now you can't ever stop it

55
00:03:31.960 --> 00:03:33.199
because it's expected of you.

56
00:03:33.680 --> 00:03:36.319
Yes, And and when I get really sad on it,

57
00:03:36.400 --> 00:03:38.759
sometimes people write to me and tell me that like that,

58
00:03:38.960 --> 00:03:41.240
like I that they care and stuff. And then I'm like,

59
00:03:41.240 --> 00:03:43.280
oh fuck, I have to just do this forever now.

60
00:03:44.120 --> 00:03:46.919
Yep, it's forever now, Buddy, Sorry about your luck.

61
00:03:47.280 --> 00:03:49.240
It's okay, it's okay, figure it out.

62
00:03:49.800 --> 00:03:58.639
Yeah maybe or maybe not or maybe not yeah yeah

63
00:03:58.800 --> 00:04:03.120
or maybe not. Stuff. I kept saying it. Do what

64
00:04:03.520 --> 00:04:06.759
I'm agreeing, Oh yeah, yeah. I just don't accepit. I

65
00:04:06.759 --> 00:04:09.680
don't think yes for an answer. That's my my Golden Rule.

66
00:04:10.599 --> 00:04:14.960
So but anyway, a lot's been going on. I guess

67
00:04:15.280 --> 00:04:19.480
in the new year, your new year started with you

68
00:04:19.879 --> 00:04:25.800
potentially having a new allergy. Yes, I hope, yeah, well yeah,

69
00:04:25.920 --> 00:04:30.839
you think you may be allergic to either fish or soy.

70
00:04:29.879 --> 00:04:32.639
Or I was thinking maybe I'm allergic to both of them,

71
00:04:32.720 --> 00:04:36.160
and when I combine them that is when the problem happens.

72
00:04:36.480 --> 00:04:39.560
But hopefully I will find out that I am allergic

73
00:04:39.680 --> 00:04:40.839
to something in the next week.

74
00:04:41.879 --> 00:04:45.720
It's like Captain Planet, when our powers combine, get an

75
00:04:45.759 --> 00:04:47.279
itchy thrown and throw up.

76
00:04:47.680 --> 00:04:48.879
Yeah, exactly.

77
00:04:49.839 --> 00:04:52.560
So that's that's the cartoon we all deserve growing up.

78
00:04:53.879 --> 00:04:59.639
I've been working tirelessly on weekly spooky stuff. It looks

79
00:04:59.720 --> 00:05:02.160
like we hadn't talked about this on the show like

80
00:05:02.240 --> 00:05:03.720
out Loud. I don't think, but it looks like I

81
00:05:03.800 --> 00:05:08.319
may have secured a decent partner to do the to

82
00:05:08.399 --> 00:05:12.519
continue terrifying and true Oh okay, because it's really hard

83
00:05:12.519 --> 00:05:15.199
to find researchers, but I found well one found me

84
00:05:16.839 --> 00:05:19.920
and was like, I write true crime. So I had

85
00:05:19.920 --> 00:05:22.279
them write two or I had the right one true

86
00:05:22.319 --> 00:05:25.120
crime story so far that they did for free to

87
00:05:25.240 --> 00:05:27.439
like show me how good they were and I thought

88
00:05:27.480 --> 00:05:32.600
it sounded good. I don't think it is overly enhanced

89
00:05:32.600 --> 00:05:34.639
with AI or whatever, because that was really what was

90
00:05:34.680 --> 00:05:37.560
starting to kill the experience was that people were you know,

91
00:05:37.639 --> 00:05:40.279
they weren't using AI for a supplement, they were just

92
00:05:40.319 --> 00:05:43.319
writing the entire content with AI, and I would look

93
00:05:43.360 --> 00:05:44.920
at it and go, this is not this is not

94
00:05:44.959 --> 00:05:45.480
going to work.

95
00:05:45.759 --> 00:05:46.160
Yeah.

96
00:05:46.759 --> 00:05:49.480
So on top of that, I've just been doing a

97
00:05:49.560 --> 00:05:53.199
lot of freelance work. The new year started off really busy,

98
00:05:53.240 --> 00:05:57.199
when usually the New Year's slow. So I mean, I'm happy,

99
00:05:57.279 --> 00:06:01.519
but I'm also tired. The last three months on weekly

100
00:06:01.560 --> 00:06:04.720
Spooky October, November, and December were some of the craziest

101
00:06:04.720 --> 00:06:06.600
busiest months of my entire life.

102
00:06:07.240 --> 00:06:07.519
Yeah.

103
00:06:07.560 --> 00:06:11.800
So yeah, yeah, it's been It's been something. And then

104
00:06:11.839 --> 00:06:16.160
on top of all of that, winter exists and we

105
00:06:16.240 --> 00:06:19.240
got a crapload of snow two weeks ago, two or

106
00:06:19.240 --> 00:06:22.360
three weeks ago, and then we had an obscene cold snap.

107
00:06:22.399 --> 00:06:24.959
I know you had a cold snap, but ours was

108
00:06:25.079 --> 00:06:25.920
crazy cold.

109
00:06:26.279 --> 00:06:29.639
Yeah years. I mean yours was like ten degrees colder

110
00:06:29.680 --> 00:06:31.600
than ours, but ours was as cold as it ever

111
00:06:31.759 --> 00:06:32.120
is here.

112
00:06:32.399 --> 00:06:35.879
So yeah, this was the first time in a long

113
00:06:35.920 --> 00:06:38.959
time that I've seen the actual temperature reading be negative

114
00:06:39.079 --> 00:06:41.279
seven in Dayton, Ohio.

115
00:06:41.800 --> 00:06:42.160
Yeah.

116
00:06:42.319 --> 00:06:44.519
Yeah, we don't usually get that cold here. We get

117
00:06:44.560 --> 00:06:49.319
cold usually we might get around there. We might get

118
00:06:49.360 --> 00:06:54.199
around there from say wind chill, like they might say like,

119
00:06:54.240 --> 00:06:58.160
well it feels like negative seven that we might get

120
00:06:58.240 --> 00:07:02.879
that bs science of feeling like but but but we

121
00:07:02.959 --> 00:07:05.639
never get like, yeah, it's just negative seven. And granted

122
00:07:05.680 --> 00:07:07.680
that happened at like three am, you know, so it

123
00:07:07.720 --> 00:07:10.079
wasn't like the middle of the day it was that cold.

124
00:07:10.120 --> 00:07:13.680
But it was like zero degrees by seven pm that day. Wow,

125
00:07:13.759 --> 00:07:14.439
crazy cold.

126
00:07:14.720 --> 00:07:14.920
Yeah.

127
00:07:15.759 --> 00:07:19.120
Yeah, so it has been It has been quite cold,

128
00:07:19.160 --> 00:07:22.519
and the last two big winter things have been southerly,

129
00:07:23.079 --> 00:07:25.319
which is bizarre to like talk to friends in like

130
00:07:25.399 --> 00:07:28.399
Kentucky and Tennessee and they were getting more snow or

131
00:07:28.439 --> 00:07:32.720
more cold than us. Very unusual. So that was an

132
00:07:32.759 --> 00:07:36.519
interesting experience. Yeah, I had to shovel snow, which I

133
00:07:36.560 --> 00:07:42.800
still hate. I ordered an electric snow shovel, which is

134
00:07:42.839 --> 00:07:46.839
basically a handheld snowblower. I had never heard of them.

135
00:07:46.879 --> 00:07:49.600
My mother and her husband had got one, and they

136
00:07:49.600 --> 00:07:51.560
were like, wow, this is amazing, Like it saves you

137
00:07:51.600 --> 00:07:53.959
so much effort. So I looked it up and I

138
00:07:54.000 --> 00:07:55.920
was like, holy crap, this is not expensive and they

139
00:07:55.920 --> 00:07:58.199
have really good reviews. It's just a it's just a

140
00:07:58.319 --> 00:08:01.319
very basic snowblower kind of thing, but it looks like

141
00:08:01.319 --> 00:08:04.839
a snowshovel. It's not very big, it runs on batteries, okay,

142
00:08:05.600 --> 00:08:08.519
so but like, yeah, people were raving about it online,

143
00:08:08.800 --> 00:08:12.120
so I bought one, but the winter weather coming up

144
00:08:12.279 --> 00:08:16.560
stopped the shipment, so by the time I got it,

145
00:08:16.639 --> 00:08:21.000
there was almost no snow left to shovel. Sorry, so

146
00:08:21.399 --> 00:08:24.759
it is sitting in a box unassembled. I'm trying to

147
00:08:24.800 --> 00:08:26.879
remind myself to like assemble it before we have a

148
00:08:26.920 --> 00:08:29.319
snowstorm so that I'm not like, you know, in a

149
00:08:29.360 --> 00:08:33.080
panic trying to assemble this thing. But I will almost

150
00:08:33.120 --> 00:08:35.720
certainly do it that way though, it's pretty much guaranteed,

151
00:08:35.759 --> 00:08:37.120
especially now that I said it out loud.

152
00:08:37.480 --> 00:08:40.519
Yeah, that's okay, though, it's more fun when you have

153
00:08:40.600 --> 00:08:43.720
to like brush and then you're just going to get that's.

154
00:08:43.600 --> 00:08:48.200
What that is. It's way more fun that way, right, Yeah,

155
00:08:48.639 --> 00:08:55.000
I almost believe you. Yay. Well, tonight, obviously we're diving

156
00:08:55.039 --> 00:08:58.399
into some spooky news and I have some really interesting

157
00:08:58.440 --> 00:09:03.240
and oddball stories. They're little bit on the lighter side. Honestly,

158
00:09:03.320 --> 00:09:04.759
these new stories, like we didn't have a lot of

159
00:09:04.840 --> 00:09:09.879
really dark ones. But that's okay because tonight's main topic

160
00:09:09.919 --> 00:09:14.000
that we're gonna do a dive into is the world

161
00:09:14.519 --> 00:09:20.759
of snuff films. Oh shit, okay, best response ever. Yeah.

162
00:09:20.799 --> 00:09:23.879
I was trying to come up with something that would

163
00:09:23.960 --> 00:09:27.919
be interesting to dive into that has like a misunderstood

164
00:09:28.000 --> 00:09:32.360
nature and that we hadn't covered in the past many episodes,

165
00:09:32.759 --> 00:09:36.720
and that's the one I came up with, snuff films. Okay,

166
00:09:36.720 --> 00:09:40.639
So we'll be talking about that after the spooky News,

167
00:09:40.639 --> 00:09:43.360
But first we're gonna take a quick break and then

168
00:09:43.720 --> 00:09:54.840
we'll begin the aforementioned spooky news right after this, and

169
00:09:55.000 --> 00:09:59.080
we are back getting ready to dive into some chili

170
00:09:59.679 --> 00:10:06.200
and chilling spooky news. The spooky news. This one is

171
00:10:06.200 --> 00:10:14.519
from Huffington Post, and tell you have family in Florida, right, Yes,

172
00:10:14.639 --> 00:10:18.039
in Florida, Florida.

173
00:10:18.559 --> 00:10:20.879
I don't know why you're saying it like that, but yes.

174
00:10:20.600 --> 00:10:22.200
Because that's how it's spelled with an.

175
00:10:22.080 --> 00:10:29.879
Oh Florida Florida Florida f L O R I d

176
00:10:30.159 --> 00:10:33.799
A Florida, Oh Florida.

177
00:10:33.960 --> 00:10:37.159
Yeah.

178
00:10:37.200 --> 00:10:41.519
Well, but you have family down there right. Yes, they've

179
00:10:41.559 --> 00:10:46.960
been experiencing quite a bit of cold and apparently when

180
00:10:46.960 --> 00:10:50.639
it gets really cold, they have a certain issue that

181
00:10:50.720 --> 00:10:54.840
arises that is very exclusive to Florida.

182
00:10:55.519 --> 00:10:57.559
I know what it is, but we can talk about

183
00:10:57.600 --> 00:10:58.120
it anyway.

184
00:10:59.120 --> 00:11:03.159
Well, this headline needs experts issue warning about falling iguanas

185
00:11:03.320 --> 00:11:08.720
in Florida. Yep, when temperatures drop in Florida, so do

186
00:11:08.799 --> 00:11:13.399
the iguanas. Meteorologists are predicting a cold spell in Florida

187
00:11:13.399 --> 00:11:15.960
and other parts of the southeast through next weekend. With

188
00:11:16.039 --> 00:11:20.159
it a potential rise in falling iguanas.

189
00:11:20.399 --> 00:11:23.000
Yeah. Yeah, they just fall right out of the trees.

190
00:11:23.840 --> 00:11:27.039
Well they get cold. Yeah, you know, don't you fall

191
00:11:27.120 --> 00:11:28.320
out of the tree when you get cold.

192
00:11:30.320 --> 00:11:31.639
I mean it was just a one time.

193
00:11:34.000 --> 00:11:35.879
Well, uh, did you ever have a pet iguana or

194
00:11:35.879 --> 00:11:37.120
have a friend who had a petaguana?

195
00:11:37.519 --> 00:11:38.320
No?

196
00:11:38.320 --> 00:11:42.000
No, all I wanted in the world was a petaguana

197
00:11:42.039 --> 00:11:43.759
when I was when I was like a young teen.

198
00:11:44.080 --> 00:11:45.279
They have salmonila.

199
00:11:47.000 --> 00:11:49.320
But there are a lot of benefits of having an iguana.

200
00:11:49.759 --> 00:11:54.720
That's just one. But no, I always wanted an iguana.

201
00:11:54.799 --> 00:11:57.840
But uh, the reason wasn't that my mom refused, It

202
00:11:57.879 --> 00:12:01.919
was that it was explained to me the amount of effort,

203
00:12:02.320 --> 00:12:05.840
and it was just so high. Yeah, and on top

204
00:12:05.879 --> 00:12:08.799
of that being a young kid, and I think mom

205
00:12:08.879 --> 00:12:12.159
was just kind of like, how about a cat or

206
00:12:12.200 --> 00:12:14.600
something like that. I don't remember. And then I didn't

207
00:12:14.679 --> 00:12:16.279
end up getting a cat for a few years until

208
00:12:16.279 --> 00:12:19.519
I caught one. So yeah, we were one of those families.

209
00:12:19.519 --> 00:12:21.279
I caught a cat and that became our cat.

210
00:12:21.519 --> 00:12:24.879
Yeah, that's how you do it.

211
00:12:24.919 --> 00:12:27.120
That was our cat, Neo. He was a kitten when

212
00:12:27.159 --> 00:12:30.120
I caught him. He was like, he couldn't have been

213
00:12:30.360 --> 00:12:34.000
twelve weeks old. Wow, yeah he was. He was because

214
00:12:34.039 --> 00:12:36.320
he used to snuggle with our poodle. We think it

215
00:12:36.360 --> 00:12:39.159
was because he was like, you know, missed his mom

216
00:12:39.279 --> 00:12:41.720
or whatever. So he would like, our poodle wanted nothing

217
00:12:41.720 --> 00:12:43.919
to do with Neo the cat, and the second our

218
00:12:43.919 --> 00:12:45.679
poodle want to sleep, Neo would come up and lay

219
00:12:45.720 --> 00:12:48.440
next to him and sleep with him. It was really cute.

220
00:12:50.159 --> 00:12:52.360
So but my mom initially was just like that cat's

221
00:12:52.399 --> 00:12:54.399
the devil because we had him in a box and

222
00:12:54.440 --> 00:12:56.159
when you'd open it, he'd just hiss and claw at you.

223
00:12:57.080 --> 00:12:58.720
So yeah, he was scared.

224
00:12:59.440 --> 00:13:01.919
He was scared, so and my mom was like, we

225
00:13:01.960 --> 00:13:05.720
can't keep him unless he tames out. So I held

226
00:13:05.759 --> 00:13:09.360
that damn cat for hours and just let him claw

227
00:13:09.399 --> 00:13:11.480
me while I like reassured him and petted him. The

228
00:13:11.519 --> 00:13:15.320
whole time. He was like angrily clawing me until he

229
00:13:15.360 --> 00:13:18.639
realized he was safe. I still have like little tiny

230
00:13:18.720 --> 00:13:21.960
nicks and scars on my arm. He ripped me up. No,

231
00:13:22.159 --> 00:13:24.639
for real, but I so desperately didn't want to get

232
00:13:24.720 --> 00:13:28.399
rid of him, Like I really loved that cat. So

233
00:13:29.159 --> 00:13:30.919
I would just pet him and if he got scared

234
00:13:31.000 --> 00:13:34.200
or whatever and scratch man, it's like, it's fine, it's fine,

235
00:13:34.360 --> 00:13:37.279
it's fine. I wouldn't get angry, I wouldn't whatever. And

236
00:13:37.559 --> 00:13:42.000
eventually he did. All right, good, Yeah, he was a

237
00:13:42.120 --> 00:13:44.279
he was a cool cat. He lived to be almost sixteen.

238
00:13:46.519 --> 00:13:54.399
What I think that's funny? No, how rude, harsh? Okay, fine, Well,

239
00:13:54.879 --> 00:13:58.039
I'm fascinated by the idea that iguanas are just wild

240
00:13:58.080 --> 00:13:59.720
in Florida. It's always blown my mind.

241
00:14:01.039 --> 00:14:04.720
Nope, nope, they're not supposed to be there. Well, it

242
00:14:04.759 --> 00:14:08.039
doesn't mean they're not wild, yeah, but they were wild

243
00:14:08.080 --> 00:14:10.240
because people let them out of their house.

244
00:14:10.320 --> 00:14:13.559
Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah. I'm not debating that. It's

245
00:14:13.600 --> 00:14:19.120
just but they're in the wild. They're just loose. They exist. Yeah, yeah,

246
00:14:19.159 --> 00:14:19.720
like they should.

247
00:14:20.120 --> 00:14:20.720
Yeah.

248
00:14:20.879 --> 00:14:24.120
It's like when I watch videos of people in Australia

249
00:14:24.159 --> 00:14:26.840
and they just have cockatoos, like yeah on their roof

250
00:14:26.840 --> 00:14:29.399
and I'm like, what the hell, that's a pet bird here.

251
00:14:30.679 --> 00:14:32.960
But yeah, my friend Fred, when he moved back to Florida,

252
00:14:33.039 --> 00:14:35.519
I was always fascinated. He'd take pictures of the iguanas

253
00:14:35.559 --> 00:14:42.559
all around. And apparently they're not bad eating either. Ew. Well,

254
00:14:42.639 --> 00:14:44.360
you don't eat lizards. Well, you don't eat meat.

255
00:14:44.559 --> 00:14:45.919
I don't want salmonella.

256
00:14:46.720 --> 00:14:47.639
That's why you cook it.

257
00:14:47.679 --> 00:14:49.519
Well, okay, fine.

258
00:14:51.559 --> 00:14:54.559
The cold blooded creatures commonly live in tree tops in

259
00:14:54.600 --> 00:14:57.519
the sunshine to state, but tend to pass out when

260
00:14:57.559 --> 00:15:01.080
temperatures drop. As a result, the hyper enating lizards lose

261
00:15:01.120 --> 00:15:03.840
their grips on branches or rooftops and fall to the

262
00:15:03.840 --> 00:15:09.320
ground or on an unfortunate passerby. They're really big too, Yeah,

263
00:15:09.320 --> 00:15:12.799
they can get gigantic. Yeah. Oh wait, that's actually the

264
00:15:12.799 --> 00:15:15.159
next thing you mentioned. Considering that iguanas can grow up

265
00:15:15.159 --> 00:15:17.240
to five feet long and weigh as much as twenty

266
00:15:17.320 --> 00:15:20.480
five pounds, it's no wonder that experts are issuing a

267
00:15:20.519 --> 00:15:25.480
warning about the potential chance of injury from raining reptiles. Wow,

268
00:15:26.200 --> 00:15:27.840
is that why you don't go down to Florida that

269
00:15:27.960 --> 00:15:30.039
much to see family because you just know you'll get

270
00:15:30.039 --> 00:15:31.840
pelted with iguanas.

271
00:15:32.360 --> 00:15:33.879
Yeah, I can see that.

272
00:15:33.840 --> 00:15:35.519
Happening to you. You just be walking down the street

273
00:15:35.559 --> 00:15:38.879
mining your own business, being like it's so sunny today,

274
00:15:38.919 --> 00:15:40.519
and then an iguana would just hit you right on

275
00:15:40.519 --> 00:15:41.799
the head and you'd be like, ow.

276
00:15:42.360 --> 00:15:47.200
I mean, considering I've had animals just fall on me before, maybe.

277
00:15:47.480 --> 00:15:49.120
When when was less than we had an animal just

278
00:15:49.159 --> 00:15:49.639
fall on.

279
00:15:49.559 --> 00:15:54.000
You, like a year or two ago, when it had

280
00:15:54.000 --> 00:15:55.200
the squirrel just fall on me.

281
00:15:57.240 --> 00:15:59.639
Okay, fair enough, I've never had a squirrel just fall

282
00:15:59.679 --> 00:16:01.000
on me. I can't pretend I have.

283
00:16:01.279 --> 00:16:08.440
Well, he was attached to a like a sewer vent stack,

284
00:16:08.519 --> 00:16:11.720
event stack that wasn't attached to the building anymore, and

285
00:16:11.759 --> 00:16:15.120
I moved it, and he lost his balance and fell

286
00:16:15.159 --> 00:16:18.519
on me and grabbed like the my my hoodie and

287
00:16:18.600 --> 00:16:21.720
was like hanging on for dear life.

288
00:16:23.480 --> 00:16:25.639
Okay, that's pretty good, that's pretty solid.

289
00:16:26.120 --> 00:16:28.360
Yeah. I thought I was gonna die because I thought

290
00:16:28.360 --> 00:16:32.440
something else fell like a part of the cast iron

291
00:16:32.519 --> 00:16:35.960
t pipe. But it was just just a squirrel.

292
00:16:40.440 --> 00:16:43.919
You can't make this shit up. Joe was let Luski,

293
00:16:44.080 --> 00:16:47.320
a biologist an iguana expert, told Patch in twenty twenty

294
00:16:47.360 --> 00:16:50.440
two that if the temperature is under forty degrees, quote,

295
00:16:50.480 --> 00:16:53.360
it's going to happen. If it's in the fifties, they're slow.

296
00:16:53.679 --> 00:16:56.159
If it's in the forties, they're on the brink of falling.

297
00:16:56.480 --> 00:16:58.240
And if it's in the thirties, they're down.

298
00:16:59.519 --> 00:17:01.960
Yeah.

299
00:17:01.759 --> 00:17:05.480
Uh Wassuluski said, Falling iguana season is often a shock

300
00:17:05.559 --> 00:17:10.119
to snowbirds and transplants. Yeah, falling iguana season would be

301
00:17:10.200 --> 00:17:13.640
a surprise. Quote when it gets cold like this. It's

302
00:17:13.640 --> 00:17:15.799
funny to those who aren't from here to see the

303
00:17:15.839 --> 00:17:19.240
news people talking about iguanas falling from trees. But it

304
00:17:19.319 --> 00:17:25.400
can and will happen, he said. Michael Rangquilo, a professional

305
00:17:25.480 --> 00:17:31.720
iguana remover, suggests people Minimi Florida is just different. Minimize

306
00:17:31.759 --> 00:17:35.400
the chance of falling iguanas by trimming back trees from rooftops,

307
00:17:35.599 --> 00:17:38.480
wrapping trees with material that the creatures can't grip more,

308
00:17:38.880 --> 00:17:41.920
or by installing fake owls as a deterrent.

309
00:17:42.359 --> 00:17:42.640
Yeah.

310
00:17:43.200 --> 00:17:47.720
I didn't even think of owls versus iguanas. Apparently it's

311
00:17:47.759 --> 00:17:50.279
gotta be makes sense. Iguanas are kind of in that

312
00:17:50.400 --> 00:17:52.599
like range of like what an owl would eat, and

313
00:17:52.640 --> 00:17:57.079
owls are vicious predators. If you do run into a

314
00:17:57.119 --> 00:18:01.160
past out iguana, Ronquillo suggests calling a professional rather than

315
00:18:01.200 --> 00:18:03.079
removing the animal yourself to say.

316
00:18:02.880 --> 00:18:06.480
Touch it, I said, don't touch it. Actually, yeah, I'm sorry.

317
00:18:07.079 --> 00:18:08.759
As soon as it warms up, it will begin to

318
00:18:08.799 --> 00:18:12.599
move normally again, he told NBC Miami. If they are concerned,

319
00:18:12.640 --> 00:18:15.400
they will defend themselves. They will try to tail whip you.

320
00:18:15.799 --> 00:18:18.160
They can whip their tails at thirty miles per hour,

321
00:18:18.279 --> 00:18:21.319
he ad it. They have very sharp teeth, very sharp nails,

322
00:18:21.319 --> 00:18:24.079
so if you don't have experience, you should not attempt

323
00:18:24.119 --> 00:18:28.119
to grab them. Okay, well that's a great suggestion, but

324
00:18:28.160 --> 00:18:32.240
I'm grabbing all the iguanas I can get my hands on. Okay,

325
00:18:33.240 --> 00:18:34.559
Well I'm sorry, it's just the same.

326
00:18:35.000 --> 00:18:36.920
Well, I mean you really should, though, because there are

327
00:18:36.960 --> 00:18:40.519
people in there in Florida who their whole job is

328
00:18:40.599 --> 00:18:44.319
getting rid of iguanas. So you can. I'm sure you

329
00:18:44.319 --> 00:18:46.599
can take them where you take them to Ohio?

330
00:18:47.000 --> 00:18:53.640
Yeah, yeah, thank you. So you feel good to be supported, Yeah,

331
00:18:54.119 --> 00:18:56.839
I mean I'm definitely glad I'm not in Florida for

332
00:18:56.880 --> 00:19:02.839
that reason, and also hurricanes. Yeah, but that's just me.

333
00:19:03.599 --> 00:19:07.039
So well, we're gonna take a quick break and then

334
00:19:07.359 --> 00:19:10.039
things are gonna get a little bit harrier right here

335
00:19:10.079 --> 00:19:28.160
on Monthly Spooking Michelle. Yeah, when it comes to insurance claims,

336
00:19:29.240 --> 00:19:32.519
do you find the process unbearable?

337
00:19:35.359 --> 00:19:35.880
Not really?

338
00:19:36.039 --> 00:19:42.880
No, oh, because this story from NPR. The headline is

339
00:19:42.960 --> 00:19:46.319
they told insurers a bear damaged their car, but it

340
00:19:46.440 --> 00:19:48.640
was actually a person in a costume.

341
00:19:49.000 --> 00:19:49.720
Oh god.

342
00:19:51.200 --> 00:19:54.039
Four residents from the Los Angeles area were arrested this

343
00:19:54.079 --> 00:19:57.400
week after an investigation by the California Department of Insurance

344
00:19:57.720 --> 00:20:00.880
revealed that they had allegedly used a life sized bear

345
00:20:00.960 --> 00:20:04.400
costume to stage attacks on their vehicle in an attempt

346
00:20:04.640 --> 00:20:06.759
to secure a six figure payout.

347
00:20:07.200 --> 00:20:10.720
Okay, I could see that. That's that's creative.

348
00:20:12.759 --> 00:20:19.279
Yeah, this is gonna be tough. The suspects, Reuben Tamranzian

349
00:20:20.160 --> 00:20:26.480
twenty six, Arat Chicken nut Cherkininian thirty nine, Vahe Murad

350
00:20:26.759 --> 00:20:32.079
Kadyandjan thirty two, and alifya Zuckerman that's a comboy like

351
00:20:32.400 --> 00:20:35.799
thirty nine have been charged with insurance fraud ind conspiracy.

352
00:20:36.039 --> 00:20:38.640
According to an announcement made by the department on Wednesday,

353
00:20:38.839 --> 00:20:42.039
their alleged scam costs three insurance companies a total of

354
00:20:42.119 --> 00:20:48.799
one hundred and forty thirty nine dollars. Wow Quote Operation

355
00:20:49.000 --> 00:20:52.440
bear Claw end Quote began earlier this year after one

356
00:20:52.440 --> 00:20:56.279
of their claims gave an insurance company pause or should

357
00:20:56.279 --> 00:21:05.240
we say pause pawspr In January, the suspects claimed that

358
00:21:05.319 --> 00:21:08.400
a bear had entered their twenty ten Rolls Royce Ghost

359
00:21:08.759 --> 00:21:12.559
and caused interior damage while it was parked in Lake Arrowhead,

360
00:21:12.799 --> 00:21:15.640
a region in the San Bernardino Mountains known for its

361
00:21:15.799 --> 00:21:21.559
large black bear population. Hmm, man, I I mean you

362
00:21:21.559 --> 00:21:23.920
guys aren't doing good enough. You have a Rolls Royce.

363
00:21:23.960 --> 00:21:27.119
Granted it's like it's like fourteen years old, but still.

364
00:21:27.880 --> 00:21:31.400
Okay, I'm already confused. So has they have a large

365
00:21:31.400 --> 00:21:33.559
black bear population in this area? Why didn't they just

366
00:21:33.680 --> 00:21:36.240
put peanut butter all over the car and just get

367
00:21:36.279 --> 00:21:37.960
the bears, get real bears.

368
00:21:38.480 --> 00:21:40.359
I guess then you'd have to scrub the peanut butter

369
00:21:40.400 --> 00:21:43.200
off and also like tried maybe they tried that.

370
00:21:43.519 --> 00:21:44.759
Yeah, and it just didn't work.

371
00:21:45.000 --> 00:21:49.759
Yeah, Oh god, it gets better. The suspects provided video

372
00:21:49.799 --> 00:21:53.759
footage of the alleged incident to their unnamed insurance company,

373
00:21:54.200 --> 00:21:58.920
which the departments had since posted online. The video shows

374
00:21:58.960 --> 00:22:02.279
a furry figure entering through the side door, climbing around

375
00:22:02.279 --> 00:22:05.319
the back seat, and crawling out, leaving scratch marks on

376
00:22:05.400 --> 00:22:10.000
the leather seats and door. The video is where you

377
00:22:10.079 --> 00:22:12.440
messed up, guys, because you were like you were like, hey,

378
00:22:12.480 --> 00:22:14.640
so this bear totally ripped up my car, and I

379
00:22:14.720 --> 00:22:16.880
totally really did happen because I have a video.

380
00:22:17.480 --> 00:22:20.200
Yeah, I was filming the whole thing. I just waited

381
00:22:20.279 --> 00:22:22.400
until he got there and then I started rolling.

382
00:22:23.319 --> 00:22:25.240
Yeah. The best thing to do there would be like,

383
00:22:25.319 --> 00:22:27.599
I don't know why this happened. I'm not a bear expert.

384
00:22:27.680 --> 00:22:30.519
You ensure my car, that's all I know. Please help me.

385
00:22:31.000 --> 00:22:34.240
Here's a video of the damage, you know, Like, yeah,

386
00:22:34.279 --> 00:22:38.720
I got nothing else for you. The suspect, Oh there

387
00:22:38.759 --> 00:22:41.880
we go upon quote. Upon further scrutiny of the video,

388
00:22:41.960 --> 00:22:45.200
the investigation determined the bear was actually a person in

389
00:22:45.240 --> 00:22:49.759
a bear costume. Officials said, yeah. Detectives found two more

390
00:22:49.799 --> 00:22:54.079
claims involving the same suspects, from the same date and location,

391
00:22:54.480 --> 00:23:00.000
but involving different cars. Wow, a twenty fifteen Mercedes GS

392
00:23:00.000 --> 00:23:03.119
six three AMG and a twenty twenty two Mercedes E

393
00:23:03.160 --> 00:23:03.799
three point fifty.

394
00:23:04.559 --> 00:23:04.880
Wow.

395
00:23:05.440 --> 00:23:09.000
I assume those are expensive cars. I know the name Mercedes,

396
00:23:09.000 --> 00:23:09.359
that's all.

397
00:23:09.519 --> 00:23:11.519
Yeah. Yeah.

398
00:23:11.599 --> 00:23:16.839
The suspects also also provided video footage of these alleged incidents,

399
00:23:17.119 --> 00:23:20.880
which followed a similar pattern to the first, but suspicious

400
00:23:20.920 --> 00:23:24.759
authorities didn't rely solely on their animal instincts. They took

401
00:23:24.799 --> 00:23:30.200
additional steps to sniff out the truth. See. Sometimes I'm like,

402
00:23:30.240 --> 00:23:32.200
you guys are right, AI, we gotta stop it, And

403
00:23:32.359 --> 00:23:39.039
other times they're like, no, replace the journalists sniff out

404
00:23:39.160 --> 00:23:42.640
the truth? Uh, the department quote. The department had a

405
00:23:42.640 --> 00:23:45.839
biologist from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife review

406
00:23:45.880 --> 00:23:49.359
of the three alleged bear videos, and they also opined

407
00:23:49.480 --> 00:23:52.240
it was clearly a human and a bear suit.

408
00:23:52.680 --> 00:23:55.640
Yeah, it's not that hard to tell the difference. I

409
00:23:55.640 --> 00:23:56.160
don't think.

410
00:23:57.319 --> 00:23:58.799
Well it gets it gets even better.

411
00:23:59.279 --> 00:24:00.519
Yeah.

412
00:24:01.079 --> 00:24:05.240
Detectives executed a search warrant and found the bear costume,

413
00:24:06.119 --> 00:24:10.599
complete with a furry snouted head, pause, and metal tools

414
00:24:11.000 --> 00:24:14.200
in the shape of claws, in the suspects homes.

415
00:24:14.319 --> 00:24:14.519
Yeah.

416
00:24:14.759 --> 00:24:19.240
Yeah, wouldn't you get rid of it?

417
00:24:20.599 --> 00:24:23.079
No, they were going to use it again.

418
00:24:25.839 --> 00:24:27.519
Honestly, they probably were.

419
00:24:27.920 --> 00:24:31.680
Yeah, why else would they keep it? Maybe it was

420
00:24:31.839 --> 00:24:32.960
or maybe they were going to use it for a

421
00:24:33.000 --> 00:24:34.400
Halloween costume next year.

422
00:24:35.759 --> 00:24:37.519
The best part is they have a photo of the

423
00:24:37.519 --> 00:24:42.079
bear costume. It's very rudimentary. Yeah, it's not very convincing.

424
00:24:43.200 --> 00:24:45.160
It also doesn't look like a black bear at all.

425
00:24:45.200 --> 00:24:48.519
It looks like a grizzly bear or a brown bear.

426
00:24:48.680 --> 00:24:50.799
I'm sure there are grizzly bears there too.

427
00:24:53.799 --> 00:24:57.440
Maybe I don't know. Man.

428
00:24:57.680 --> 00:24:59.720
Did the bear have to open the car door to

429
00:24:59.759 --> 00:25:01.839
get inside or was it open already?

430
00:25:02.640 --> 00:25:05.880
Bears have open car doors. Okay, fine, that's why you

431
00:25:05.880 --> 00:25:07.319
should always lock your car door.

432
00:25:07.920 --> 00:25:08.720
That's the reason.

433
00:25:09.480 --> 00:25:13.720
Oh well, it's one of many. Yes, there are other

434
00:25:13.799 --> 00:25:19.880
reasons too. The fur of the costume is a light

435
00:25:19.920 --> 00:25:23.119
brown color. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says

436
00:25:23.119 --> 00:25:26.039
black bears are the only wild bears in the state,

437
00:25:26.599 --> 00:25:29.880
although they can be found in various shades, including brown

438
00:25:29.960 --> 00:25:34.599
and tan. California grizzly bears became extinct in ninth in

439
00:25:34.599 --> 00:25:37.359
the nineteen twenties, except for the one depicted on the

440
00:25:37.359 --> 00:25:40.039
state flag, the one of the state flag is not

441
00:25:40.680 --> 00:25:42.000
is not extinct.

442
00:25:42.119 --> 00:25:42.960
It's not real.

443
00:25:43.279 --> 00:25:44.200
It's a drawing.

444
00:25:44.519 --> 00:25:45.640
It can't be extinct.

445
00:25:46.759 --> 00:25:49.400
I don't understand the point they made there.

446
00:25:49.559 --> 00:25:51.680
I don't know what they're what they're doing.

447
00:25:54.119 --> 00:25:57.839
The insurance Department says the Glendale Police Department and the

448
00:25:57.880 --> 00:26:01.160
California Highway Patrol helped invest to get the case, which

449
00:26:01.160 --> 00:26:04.640
has been referred to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's

450
00:26:04.680 --> 00:26:09.119
Office for prosecution. The District Attorney's office informed NPR via

451
00:26:09.200 --> 00:26:11.720
email on Thursday that the case is currently under review

452
00:26:11.799 --> 00:26:16.079
for a filing determination, essentially the decision to charge suspects

453
00:26:16.079 --> 00:26:19.000
with a crime. Once that decision is made, court dates

454
00:26:19.000 --> 00:26:24.160
and appearances will be scheduled. Okay, so if you were

455
00:26:24.160 --> 00:26:28.839
gonna commit insurance fraud, how would you do it?

456
00:26:31.480 --> 00:26:33.359
I would I would like, if I was gonna do

457
00:26:33.440 --> 00:26:35.680
like this kind of thing, I would go all the

458
00:26:35.720 --> 00:26:38.720
way and make it like a like a bigfoot.

459
00:26:40.079 --> 00:26:40.960
Fastquatch did it?

460
00:26:41.400 --> 00:26:44.440
Yeah, exactly, And I'd be like, That's why I was filming,

461
00:26:44.480 --> 00:26:46.359
because I saw one and it just ran out to

462
00:26:46.400 --> 00:26:48.880
my car and open the door and just destroy everything.

463
00:26:49.440 --> 00:26:52.880
It started wrecking my bends. What am I supposed to do?

464
00:26:53.400 --> 00:26:55.519
I don't. Yeah, I don't know why I have this car,

465
00:26:55.599 --> 00:26:57.599
and that I just wanted to, like, I wouldn't wreck

466
00:26:57.640 --> 00:26:59.319
my car. It's an expensive car. I don't know how

467
00:26:59.400 --> 00:27:00.680
many chumpen to for it.

468
00:27:01.240 --> 00:27:05.839
Yeah, really, And I don't even want to talk about

469
00:27:05.839 --> 00:27:07.440
what Mothman did to my tires.

470
00:27:08.160 --> 00:27:09.920
But I can show you on video if you want.

471
00:27:09.960 --> 00:27:11.400
Yeah, but I have a video of it, of course,

472
00:27:11.519 --> 00:27:13.400
of course, because that's how you know it's not fraud.

473
00:27:13.759 --> 00:27:17.000
Is because and I do say like no, wait stop

474
00:27:17.200 --> 00:27:19.160
in the video, and he doesn't stop.

475
00:27:23.559 --> 00:27:27.079
I don't know what's worse. So if they hadn't had,

476
00:27:27.160 --> 00:27:29.799
if they hadn't shared a video, I think that would

477
00:27:29.839 --> 00:27:34.160
have actually raised less red flags probably, Yeah. But the

478
00:27:34.240 --> 00:27:37.960
fact that they had declared like three very similar insurance

479
00:27:38.400 --> 00:27:42.119
claims all at once, I guess it could have happened

480
00:27:42.200 --> 00:27:45.119
if they were all together somewhere. I guess the bear

481
00:27:45.279 --> 00:27:46.240
try and make that argument.

482
00:27:46.319 --> 00:27:49.759
The bear just went into three of the cars, Yeah.

483
00:27:49.240 --> 00:27:50.880
Looking for stuff. I mean, there could have been food

484
00:27:50.880 --> 00:27:53.839
and there there's nothing nothing is illegal about keeping a

485
00:27:53.839 --> 00:27:57.640
picnic basket in your car, at least that's my understanding.

486
00:27:58.799 --> 00:28:02.039
Boo boo, that's I'm gonna start calling you booboo? Is that? Okay?

487
00:28:02.480 --> 00:28:03.039
I don't know.

488
00:28:03.880 --> 00:28:07.319
Okay, good, But all I'm saying is if they had

489
00:28:07.400 --> 00:28:10.319
dumped the bear suit and they hadn't made a video,

490
00:28:12.559 --> 00:28:14.039
they probably could have got away with this.

491
00:28:15.039 --> 00:28:15.519
Yeah.

492
00:28:15.880 --> 00:28:18.079
Yeah, in an area where there are lots of bears,

493
00:28:19.519 --> 00:28:20.920
I bet they could have got away with it.

494
00:28:21.119 --> 00:28:23.400
I mean, it depends on how much the insurance company

495
00:28:23.440 --> 00:28:25.519
is going to like look into the damage to the

496
00:28:25.519 --> 00:28:28.160
car too, because I'm sure it doesn't look like damage

497
00:28:28.160 --> 00:28:30.319
a bear did. It looks like damage a person did.

498
00:28:30.759 --> 00:28:34.880
Yeah, that is the next element. Yeah, you're right, I

499
00:28:34.880 --> 00:28:35.279
don't know.

500
00:28:35.640 --> 00:28:38.599
But at that point, it's like, why say you know

501
00:28:38.640 --> 00:28:40.559
what it did it anyway? Why not just say like

502
00:28:40.559 --> 00:28:43.799
it came out, everything's all torn up? What do I do?

503
00:28:44.279 --> 00:28:44.599
Help me?

504
00:28:45.759 --> 00:28:48.200
Yeah that's a good point. I mean you could just

505
00:28:48.359 --> 00:28:51.400
have some person destroy it in downtown LA. I'm sure.

506
00:28:51.480 --> 00:28:54.119
Yeah, Like, like, why wouldn't you just drive it to

507
00:28:54.160 --> 00:28:55.200
a really bad area.

508
00:28:56.000 --> 00:28:57.880
I think a homeless person did this to my car,

509
00:28:57.920 --> 00:29:03.039
but I have no idea exactly. Yeah, well maybe next

510
00:29:03.079 --> 00:29:05.279
time if they don't do hard time, and it's Los

511
00:29:05.319 --> 00:29:09.200
Angeles so they probably won't. We're gonna take a quick

512
00:29:09.240 --> 00:29:12.039
break and We'll be back with even more spooky news

513
00:29:12.400 --> 00:29:27.559
that's even more unbearable. Eh. After this, we are back

514
00:29:27.720 --> 00:29:33.079
and we have another story that is a bit unbearable.

515
00:29:33.119 --> 00:29:37.559
I'm just gonna keep using the exactly unbearable. This one's

516
00:29:37.640 --> 00:29:44.000
not as funny, not at all. From NPR. Again. Sorry,

517
00:29:44.400 --> 00:29:48.400
I said, yeah, yeah, well you like NPR, So this

518
00:29:48.440 --> 00:29:51.839
one's from NPR. The headline a man told nine one

519
00:29:51.880 --> 00:29:54.880
one a bear chased him off a cliff. Weeks later,

520
00:29:55.240 --> 00:29:57.799
he was arrested for murder.

521
00:29:58.440 --> 00:30:00.880
What the or the guy?

522
00:30:01.359 --> 00:30:04.000
The guy baby? Actually, I haven't read this all the

523
00:30:04.039 --> 00:30:07.920
way through. In mid October, a man called police in

524
00:30:08.039 --> 00:30:11.519
eastern Tennessee claiming a bear had chased him off a cliff,

525
00:30:12.000 --> 00:30:14.799
but authorities arrived on the scene to find the body

526
00:30:14.880 --> 00:30:18.839
of a different man, sparking a multi state manhunt for

527
00:30:18.880 --> 00:30:21.960
the caller that ended with his arrest on murder charges

528
00:30:22.039 --> 00:30:25.880
this weekend. What like?

529
00:30:25.960 --> 00:30:27.799
So what did he think he was just pretending to

530
00:30:27.799 --> 00:30:28.480
be the other guy?

531
00:30:28.599 --> 00:30:30.680
Or I think so. I think he was trying to

532
00:30:30.720 --> 00:30:36.640
create reasonable doubt that it was anything other than a bear. Yes, authority,

533
00:30:36.720 --> 00:30:39.599
say Nicholas Wayne Hamlet forty five, Well, you can't trust

534
00:30:39.599 --> 00:30:42.319
somebody named Hamlet. We all know how that goes. Forty

535
00:30:42.359 --> 00:30:45.240
five befriended and lured his victim into a wooded area

536
00:30:45.279 --> 00:30:48.319
to take both his life and his identity.

537
00:30:48.400 --> 00:30:50.119
Oh oh shit, Okay.

538
00:30:52.079 --> 00:30:54.960
Hamlet, who was using an alias at the time, has

539
00:30:55.000 --> 00:30:58.680
a lengthy criminal history and was already wanted in Alabama

540
00:30:59.119 --> 00:31:04.160
for parole violation. Man, this is a real one right here.

541
00:31:04.400 --> 00:31:06.400
He's just like, well, I'm going to commit some more

542
00:31:06.440 --> 00:31:07.000
crimes though.

543
00:31:07.319 --> 00:31:10.279
Yeah, I mean he's already violating parole, so whatever.

544
00:31:10.519 --> 00:31:14.000
Yeah. Yeah, literally, anything illegally you do is immediately even

545
00:31:14.200 --> 00:31:15.720
a double crime because of parole.

546
00:31:16.160 --> 00:31:17.200
Yeah.

547
00:31:17.319 --> 00:31:20.599
After the October incident, another warrant was issued for Hamlet's

548
00:31:20.640 --> 00:31:25.640
arrest on first degree murder charges in Moreau County, Tennessee. Wow.

549
00:31:26.279 --> 00:31:29.480
State and federal authorities warraned that Hamlet, whom they considered

550
00:31:29.559 --> 00:31:33.920
dangerous and potentially armed, was known to travel under aliases.

551
00:31:34.359 --> 00:31:36.839
They urged Hamlet to turn himself in and ask the

552
00:31:36.880 --> 00:31:40.039
public for help. The US Marshal Service offered up to

553
00:31:40.160 --> 00:31:46.480
five thousand dollars for information leading to his arrest. I

554
00:31:46.480 --> 00:31:51.119
mean five grand for information is pretty good, I guess, yeah, yeah,

555
00:31:51.359 --> 00:31:53.319
I mean it's not like you know, the the rewards

556
00:31:53.319 --> 00:31:55.200
you get for like actually turning someone in.

557
00:31:55.240 --> 00:31:58.880
I guess, but yeah, it's kind of low. I mean,

558
00:31:58.880 --> 00:31:59.960
I don't want to tell them anything.

559
00:32:01.400 --> 00:32:04.799
After many weeks of searching and one Halloween night spotting,

560
00:32:05.079 --> 00:32:09.279
Hamlet was taken into custody in Columbia, South Carolina on Sunday.

561
00:32:09.720 --> 00:32:12.640
Quote after observing Hamlet at a local hospital, a good

562
00:32:12.640 --> 00:32:16.200
citizen alerted the authorities and brought this manhunt to a

563
00:32:16.240 --> 00:32:20.200
peaceful end, Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones said in a release.

564
00:32:20.839 --> 00:32:25.640
Columbia police say a hospital employee recognized Hamlet and alerted authorities,

565
00:32:25.640 --> 00:32:30.559
who verified his identity using fingerprints. They say arrangements are

566
00:32:30.559 --> 00:32:33.319
being made with the Tennessee authorities to extradite Hamlet to

567
00:32:33.400 --> 00:32:34.200
Monroe County.

568
00:32:36.039 --> 00:32:40.480
It's good, Yeah, yeah.

569
00:32:39.920 --> 00:32:42.960
I suppose so. But here's where the story gets really weird.

570
00:32:44.240 --> 00:32:46.160
Is now they're going to tell they're talking about like

571
00:32:46.240 --> 00:32:50.960
what happened in the woods. The Monroe County Sheriff's office

572
00:32:50.960 --> 00:32:53.880
says a distressed hiker called nine one one shortly before

573
00:32:53.920 --> 00:32:58.200
midnight on October eighteenth, claiming to be mister Brandon Andraid

574
00:32:58.759 --> 00:33:03.759
or Andrade Okay he had quote, he advised the dispatcher

575
00:33:03.799 --> 00:33:05.920
that he had fallen off a cliff while running from

576
00:33:05.920 --> 00:33:09.119
a bear, it said, adding that the call came from

577
00:33:09.160 --> 00:33:13.839
a near bridge on the Chirohala Skyway, a forty three

578
00:33:13.880 --> 00:33:18.880
mile national scenic byway in teleco planes. Quote. The distressed

579
00:33:18.920 --> 00:33:22.640
caller claimed that he was injured and partially in the water.

580
00:33:23.640 --> 00:33:28.240
H According to the dispatch call obtained by the Knoxville

581
00:33:28.240 --> 00:33:31.960
News Sentinel, the man's subject, the male subject had quote

582
00:33:32.119 --> 00:33:35.480
hit his head, was quote unable to move, and his

583
00:33:35.559 --> 00:33:39.279
phone only had quote two percent battery. Unable to get

584
00:33:39.359 --> 00:33:47.240
him back on nine one one. I mean, this is

585
00:33:47.319 --> 00:33:49.200
quite the plot, it really is.

586
00:33:49.319 --> 00:33:50.200
I mean it's pretty good.

587
00:33:51.920 --> 00:33:56.720
Geez, you're dark. Search and rescue teams rushed to the

588
00:33:56.799 --> 00:33:59.599
area and found a man's body with an identification of

589
00:33:59.640 --> 00:34:05.680
mistic brand Christopher Andrade on his persons. He was transported

590
00:34:05.680 --> 00:34:09.039
to the forensic center while investigators combed the scene. After

591
00:34:09.119 --> 00:34:12.559
further investigation, detectives determined that the deceased man was not

592
00:34:13.119 --> 00:34:17.000
Brandon ANDRADEID. In fact, they said that identification had been

593
00:34:17.039 --> 00:34:21.079
stolen and used on multiple occasions in this case, as

594
00:34:21.079 --> 00:34:27.599
they quickly discovered by hamlet. Huh miss, Yeah, this is

595
00:34:27.599 --> 00:34:28.239
getting confusing.

596
00:34:28.280 --> 00:34:31.199
Yeah please yeah, So like, so are we saying that

597
00:34:31.320 --> 00:34:34.920
he pretend he was trying to fake his death of

598
00:34:34.960 --> 00:34:38.400
his alias by killing this other person? Is that what

599
00:34:38.440 --> 00:34:38.880
we're saying?

600
00:34:39.000 --> 00:34:42.039
That might be? I think we're gonna find out more.

601
00:34:42.599 --> 00:34:45.119
Mister Hamlet had used a false name when speaking with

602
00:34:45.199 --> 00:34:48.639
law enforcement in Knox County, Tennessee, after the distressed hiker call,

603
00:34:48.880 --> 00:34:52.559
the Sheriff's office explained, before his real identity had been verified.

604
00:34:52.559 --> 00:34:55.800
Mister Hamlet is believed to have fled from his Tennessee residence.

605
00:34:56.320 --> 00:34:59.639
That set off a multi agency investigation by the Tennessee

606
00:34:59.679 --> 00:35:04.719
Bureau Investigation FBI and others to locate Hamlet and identify

607
00:35:04.840 --> 00:35:09.960
the victim. On November fourth, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office

608
00:35:09.960 --> 00:35:12.920
announced it had identified the victim as thirty four year

609
00:35:12.960 --> 00:35:17.559
old Stephen Douglas Lloyd of Knoxville, Tennessee. It said Lloyd,

610
00:35:17.639 --> 00:35:19.880
a foster child who had been adopted by a great

611
00:35:19.920 --> 00:35:23.800
and loving family, suffered from trust issues and mental health issues,

612
00:35:24.000 --> 00:35:28.880
including reactive attachment disorder. Jesus, you're the one who said

613
00:35:28.880 --> 00:35:33.320
this was good. Yeah, yeah, you're a monster. No, that

614
00:35:33.519 --> 00:35:36.320
poor child, Well, he was thirty four.

615
00:35:36.679 --> 00:35:37.760
It doesn't matter.

616
00:35:39.440 --> 00:35:42.039
Quote. Stephen was known to leave home and live on

617
00:35:42.079 --> 00:35:45.199
the streets, but kept in contact with his family. The

618
00:35:45.239 --> 00:35:48.440
Sheriff's office said Stephen loved the outdoors and was so

619
00:35:48.559 --> 00:35:51.239
helpful when it came to others. The family was shocked

620
00:35:51.239 --> 00:35:54.360
to learn that their beloved son his life had been

621
00:35:54.400 --> 00:35:59.239
taken by someone that Stephen trusted. Authorities did not specify

622
00:35:59.280 --> 00:36:01.599
how long the two men had known each other, but

623
00:36:01.679 --> 00:36:05.599
said hamlet quote met Stephen, befriended him, and lured him

624
00:36:05.639 --> 00:36:14.960
into a wooden area to take Stephen's life and his identity. Yeah. Yeah,

625
00:36:15.079 --> 00:36:17.440
not so not so great, now, are you? Chell?

626
00:36:18.639 --> 00:36:20.719
Why do you got to kill the guy with the

627
00:36:20.760 --> 00:36:23.320
trust issues who's like homeless most of the time, Like,

628
00:36:23.360 --> 00:36:24.239
why you gotta do that?

629
00:36:25.440 --> 00:36:27.320
Honestly, I don't know. You think of he had trust issues,

630
00:36:27.320 --> 00:36:29.000
he wouldn't go into the woods, but I.

631
00:36:29.440 --> 00:36:33.159
Guess he trusted this guy. No, It's like he was

632
00:36:33.320 --> 00:36:35.719
he was finally kind of coming out of his like.

633
00:36:39.360 --> 00:36:42.440
Okay, yeah, that's sad. It's sad. Shell's just like I

634
00:36:42.440 --> 00:36:45.280
can't believe how sad this murder is. What the hell?

635
00:36:45.440 --> 00:36:49.760
Chill official said at an October thirtieth press conference that

636
00:36:49.880 --> 00:36:52.719
Lloyd's cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head,

637
00:36:53.039 --> 00:36:56.159
adding that his injuries were quote not consistent with a

638
00:36:56.199 --> 00:36:59.840
bear attack or a fall from a very high elevated

639
00:37:00.840 --> 00:37:03.679
They also said his killing was quote not an isolated

640
00:37:03.679 --> 00:37:08.760
incident by any means, given Hamlet's violent criminal history. Hamlet

641
00:37:08.760 --> 00:37:11.079
was arrested in Alabama in two thousand and nine over

642
00:37:11.119 --> 00:37:13.880
an incident in which he held a man at gunpoint

643
00:37:14.079 --> 00:37:16.920
and attempted to kill him with a baseball bat, with

644
00:37:17.079 --> 00:37:20.800
plans to eventually bury his body in a rural area.

645
00:37:20.880 --> 00:37:23.159
So he was gonna hold He was holding the guy

646
00:37:23.239 --> 00:37:24.880
at gunpoint, but he was going to kill him with

647
00:37:24.920 --> 00:37:25.679
a baseball bat.

648
00:37:26.079 --> 00:37:27.760
I guess, you know, in two thousand and nine, bullets

649
00:37:27.800 --> 00:37:31.199
weren't that expensive. Man. I don't know. Maybe he was

650
00:37:31.199 --> 00:37:34.960
trying to keep the noise down and guns are very traceable.

651
00:37:36.280 --> 00:37:38.559
Maybe that was his thought. Honestly, I don't think thinking

652
00:37:38.679 --> 00:37:40.079
is really this guy's strong suit.

653
00:37:40.440 --> 00:37:44.000
Well it seems like he's really trying though, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,

654
00:37:44.079 --> 00:37:46.320
and failing spectacularly. Yeah.

655
00:37:46.719 --> 00:37:49.480
Citing court records, the site says Hamlet was going by

656
00:37:49.480 --> 00:37:52.280
the name Joshua Jones when he approached the victim, so

657
00:37:52.480 --> 00:37:56.360
quote he could get some insurance. Hamlet had had four

658
00:37:56.760 --> 00:37:59.840
who had four prior felony convictions, was charged with a

659
00:37:59.880 --> 00:38:03.719
tempted murder and kidnapping, but ultimately pleaded to the lesser

660
00:38:03.760 --> 00:38:08.199
offense of felony assault. Hamlet was sentenced to twenty years

661
00:38:08.199 --> 00:38:12.239
in prison in twenty twelve and paroled in twenty sixteen.

662
00:38:13.519 --> 00:38:14.800
That's really fast, parole.

663
00:38:14.840 --> 00:38:15.920
It is really fast.

664
00:38:16.599 --> 00:38:21.159
Yeah. Usually parole is closer to halfway. Yeah, through your service.

665
00:38:22.320 --> 00:38:25.079
In the weeks after Lloyd's death, authorities urged the public

666
00:38:25.079 --> 00:38:28.400
to be on the lookout for Hamlet, and also for

667
00:38:28.440 --> 00:38:31.639
Hamlet to turn himself in. Quote, let's end this peacefully,

668
00:38:31.639 --> 00:38:34.679
turn yourself in, have your day in court. Joseph Coirico,

669
00:38:34.920 --> 00:38:37.760
the Special Agent in charge of the FBI's Nashville Field office,

670
00:38:37.760 --> 00:38:40.400
said at the press conference, we will find you, no

671
00:38:40.480 --> 00:38:44.119
matter where you hide. Authorities warned that Hamlet has ties

672
00:38:44.159 --> 00:38:49.480
to Tennessee, Montana, Alaska, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Florida, suggesting

673
00:38:49.519 --> 00:38:53.960
he had fled to another state. Their hunch proved correct.

674
00:38:54.440 --> 00:38:58.159
On Halloween night. Police in Chapin, South Carolina, where Hamlet

675
00:38:58.199 --> 00:39:01.239
apparently had a has family, said he was reported to

676
00:39:01.280 --> 00:39:03.440
be in the area and urged trigger treaters to be

677
00:39:03.519 --> 00:39:06.719
extra vigilant. They confirmed that he was spotted near the

678
00:39:06.719 --> 00:39:09.960
local high school in the early morning of November first,

679
00:39:10.360 --> 00:39:14.119
and that state and federal authorities were searching the area.

680
00:39:14.280 --> 00:39:16.239
First of all, I want to say, how fun for

681
00:39:16.280 --> 00:39:18.000
those kids to be, like, all right, kids have fun

682
00:39:18.000 --> 00:39:20.039
trigger treating, but there might be a murderer out there.

683
00:39:20.159 --> 00:39:21.280
Then that'd be so fun.

684
00:39:21.519 --> 00:39:22.360
Yeah.

685
00:39:22.440 --> 00:39:24.679
These are twisted takes, but I'm going to share them anyway.

686
00:39:24.840 --> 00:39:28.039
The other thing is not saying this is what happened.

687
00:39:28.480 --> 00:39:33.599
But between Halloween and November one, someone pointed out to

688
00:39:33.639 --> 00:39:36.920
the police he was there. Could it have been the

689
00:39:36.960 --> 00:39:41.960
spirit of who he murdered, because the barrier between living

690
00:39:42.000 --> 00:39:45.920
and dead is permeable. Maybe if I were writing this

691
00:39:46.000 --> 00:39:49.360
as a story, yes, that would be what happened. Yeah,

692
00:39:50.119 --> 00:39:52.679
although then it says this. Their efforts were unsuccessful. The

693
00:39:52.679 --> 00:39:55.280
following Friday, a week after the citing police at Hamlet

694
00:39:55.320 --> 00:39:58.440
was no longer believed to be in town. Two days later,

695
00:39:58.480 --> 00:40:00.920
he was spotted at the hospital and Columbia, about twenty

696
00:40:00.960 --> 00:40:05.840
five miles away. Officials with Carolina's Regional Fugitive Task Force

697
00:40:05.840 --> 00:40:08.760
said a dehydrated Hamlet had checked into the hospital as

698
00:40:08.800 --> 00:40:13.800
a John Doe. ABC affiliate WPTDE reports that's where police

699
00:40:13.840 --> 00:40:16.920
say and employee recognized him with it from a wanted poster.

700
00:40:17.800 --> 00:40:20.840
The sharing of Hamlet's wanted poster led the public, whom

701
00:40:20.920 --> 00:40:23.880
is our most valuable resource to act as our eyes

702
00:40:24.039 --> 00:40:30.280
and our ears? Joan said, So he killed somebody to

703
00:40:30.320 --> 00:40:32.239
try and make it look like his alias was dead

704
00:40:32.239 --> 00:40:37.360
and then steal their identity. Yeah, yeah, the old switcheroo,

705
00:40:37.559 --> 00:40:42.079
I suppose. Yeah, Well, we're going to take a quick

706
00:40:42.079 --> 00:40:45.679
break and we'll be back with an even more unbearable

707
00:40:46.280 --> 00:40:49.039
I'm kidding. There no more stories about bears. We're dumb

708
00:40:49.119 --> 00:40:52.480
with bears. No more bears tonight. No more fake bears

709
00:40:53.039 --> 00:40:55.599
is the better way to put it. But we'll be

710
00:40:55.679 --> 00:41:06.599
right back after this, all right, Michelle, we are back.

711
00:41:06.800 --> 00:41:12.440
No more bears, no more fraud, no more well, I think,

712
00:41:12.480 --> 00:41:18.039
no more crime. Okay to be seen, well until we

713
00:41:18.079 --> 00:41:20.599
get to stuff films later on our topic, which that's

714
00:41:20.639 --> 00:41:25.199
all crime all the time. But this story is from

715
00:41:25.239 --> 00:41:28.079
the suspiciously absent from the first half of the show.

716
00:41:28.800 --> 00:41:30.400
Mirror dot co dot UK.

717
00:41:30.960 --> 00:41:34.039
Yeah, it's all been like NPR and stuff.

718
00:41:34.480 --> 00:41:36.480
Yeah, not all right, we gotta get we gotta get

719
00:41:36.480 --> 00:41:40.679
mirror dot code dot UK in here. So this story

720
00:41:40.960 --> 00:41:44.400
caught my attention immediately and I felt like maybe you

721
00:41:44.440 --> 00:41:47.920
would get a kick out of it too. The headline

722
00:41:48.039 --> 00:41:53.440
is Adele slammed for quote blighting sale of six pound

723
00:41:53.559 --> 00:42:02.039
house by claiming it's haunted. Whoa superstar? Adele has been

724
00:42:02.039 --> 00:42:05.159
accused of blighting the sale of a six million pound

725
00:42:05.239 --> 00:42:09.119
country mansion she lived in for six months by claiming

726
00:42:09.239 --> 00:42:10.199
it was haunted.

727
00:42:12.599 --> 00:42:13.639
How would this be helpful?

728
00:42:15.039 --> 00:42:15.960
How to be helpful?

729
00:42:16.400 --> 00:42:17.800
Yeah? What does she get out of this?

730
00:42:19.119 --> 00:42:22.159
Uh? Probably just the clout of just an interesting social

731
00:42:22.159 --> 00:42:25.800
media post. Oh, I mean well it depends, like we'll see,

732
00:42:26.159 --> 00:42:28.559
like if she claims like it was haunted, as in

733
00:42:28.679 --> 00:42:30.880
like she woke up with like scratches on her legs

734
00:42:30.920 --> 00:42:32.400
and stuff, is very different from when she was like

735
00:42:32.519 --> 00:42:34.559
I just never really felt alone there. So I sold

736
00:42:34.559 --> 00:42:37.400
it to whatever La la laul. You know, I'm not

737
00:42:37.400 --> 00:42:40.920
sure where we're going with this yet. The someone like

738
00:42:40.960 --> 00:42:44.719
you Starr told a chat show that grade two listed

739
00:42:44.840 --> 00:42:51.599
ten bedroom Lockehouse in West Sussex was quite scary. Okay,

740
00:42:52.679 --> 00:42:54.800
now the owner okay, So it was just something to

741
00:42:54.840 --> 00:42:58.920
say on a talk show Okay. Now, the owner says

742
00:42:58.960 --> 00:43:04.559
he has been forced to try to transform the converted convent. Okay,

743
00:43:04.599 --> 00:43:08.559
hold on, I'm gonna finish reading this before I get

744
00:43:08.599 --> 00:43:12.719
a little mad. Now the owner says he's been forced

745
00:43:12.760 --> 00:43:15.880
to try to transform the converted convent into flats rather

746
00:43:15.920 --> 00:43:20.039
than find a buyer because the singer has made it unsellable. Okay,

747
00:43:20.480 --> 00:43:27.400
you have a house that was once a convent. That's spooky.

748
00:43:28.480 --> 00:43:29.840
Yeah, yeah, a little bit.

749
00:43:30.000 --> 00:43:34.760
That's totally spooky, right yeah, yeah, Okay, sorry to get

750
00:43:34.760 --> 00:43:37.159
my dander up, but like that actually kind of pissed

751
00:43:37.159 --> 00:43:38.159
me off. Wait.

752
00:43:38.239 --> 00:43:41.880
Yeah, and at least what she said so far that

753
00:43:42.079 --> 00:43:44.679
was fine. She hasn't said anything, you know.

754
00:43:46.079 --> 00:43:48.440
Yeah, and like I'm looking at a picture of the place.

755
00:43:48.599 --> 00:43:55.960
It looks like a fucking convent. Yeah, it looks It's

756
00:43:56.039 --> 00:43:59.119
beautiful in that way that everything in England is scary.

757
00:44:02.679 --> 00:44:06.840
Nicholas Sutton said that her remarks quote negatively impacted future

758
00:44:06.960 --> 00:44:10.719
marketing and even led to a prospective buyer pulling out

759
00:44:10.800 --> 00:44:11.920
of a potential sale.

760
00:44:12.639 --> 00:44:16.360
Wouldn't they want to buy it because Adele was there?

761
00:44:17.400 --> 00:44:19.519
Yeah, you'd think that would make it famous. Although that's

762
00:44:19.559 --> 00:44:22.400
where it gets tricky too, is like, you know, Adele

763
00:44:22.440 --> 00:44:25.599
could have just said it was horrible and drafty and rapists.

764
00:44:26.000 --> 00:44:30.400
Yeah no, specifico. Could you expand on that big No, no, no,

765
00:44:30.840 --> 00:44:34.519
I can't help you. After detailing a history of issues

766
00:44:34.519 --> 00:44:37.760
with the property in Partridge Green, Sussex, mister Sutton, who

767
00:44:37.800 --> 00:44:41.159
said its reputation was affected by the singer, is now

768
00:44:41.239 --> 00:44:44.519
seeking permission to transform the mansion into three houses and

769
00:44:44.559 --> 00:44:46.159
a cottage.

770
00:44:46.480 --> 00:44:50.679
He is just doing this because he wants to make

771
00:44:50.760 --> 00:44:53.960
more money.

772
00:44:53.039 --> 00:44:56.000
Something like that. I mean, first of all, I mean

773
00:44:56.599 --> 00:45:00.639
maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I don't know jack about new

774
00:45:00.760 --> 00:45:08.119
about England, which is fair. But like if I were

775
00:45:08.159 --> 00:45:11.360
buying a property worth six million pounds, I had that

776
00:45:11.440 --> 00:45:13.880
kind of money and then I saw that I wouldn't

777
00:45:14.039 --> 00:45:16.000
I wouldn't give up on the sale. I just try

778
00:45:16.039 --> 00:45:18.559
to get like a million pounds off, I'd be like, well,

779
00:45:19.320 --> 00:45:21.519
I'm a jerk. So I'm gonna mention that I saw

780
00:45:21.559 --> 00:45:25.679
Adele say this place is pretty scary. I think, you know,

781
00:45:26.440 --> 00:45:28.920
is it a million pounds scary or a million and

782
00:45:28.960 --> 00:45:33.159
a half pounds scary? That's what I I That's why

783
00:45:33.159 --> 00:45:41.559
I'm like, what what? But uh? Yeah? The Edwardian property

784
00:45:41.639 --> 00:45:44.519
is set with an acres of formal gardens and mature

785
00:45:44.559 --> 00:45:47.800
grounds with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a tennis court,

786
00:45:48.239 --> 00:45:51.079
and a helicopter pad, so if.

787
00:45:50.960 --> 00:45:53.159
The ghost got really bad, you could just take a

788
00:45:53.199 --> 00:45:55.159
helicopter out of there. I don't know what the problem is.

789
00:45:55.639 --> 00:45:57.679
See, this is completely makes sense to me.

790
00:45:58.199 --> 00:46:00.280
Yeah.

791
00:46:00.360 --> 00:46:04.199
In twenty twelve, Grammy Award winning star Adele now thirty six,

792
00:46:04.280 --> 00:46:07.039
rented the home for a half a year, but did

793
00:46:07.039 --> 00:46:10.800
not renew her tendency after claiming it was haunted. It

794
00:46:10.920 --> 00:46:13.320
was believed the singer, estimated to be worth one hundred

795
00:46:13.360 --> 00:46:17.000
and seventy million pounds, lived there with her then boyfriend

796
00:46:17.000 --> 00:46:20.480
and now ex husband, Simon Koneccki. In an interview with

797
00:46:20.599 --> 00:46:23.639
CBS that year, she told host Anderson Cooper that her house,

798
00:46:23.920 --> 00:46:26.639
which was said to have almost no furniture, was a

799
00:46:26.679 --> 00:46:32.199
bit of a cliche. This bit's all quite scary, really,

800
00:46:32.480 --> 00:46:35.159
She told him it was a convent for a little while.

801
00:46:35.599 --> 00:46:37.719
At the time, it was reported that the singer, who

802
00:46:37.719 --> 00:46:41.760
had released award winning the award winning album twenty one

803
00:46:41.840 --> 00:46:44.639
the previous year, had asked her bodyguard to move in

804
00:46:44.679 --> 00:46:48.239
with her over fears it was haunted. Your bodyguard gonna

805
00:46:48.280 --> 00:46:52.079
do shoot the ghost, I guess with his no gun,

806
00:46:52.159 --> 00:46:55.760
probably because he's in England, and she was reported as

807
00:46:55.800 --> 00:47:01.920
saying the home quote gives me the creeps. In a

808
00:47:02.039 --> 00:47:06.360
planning application presented to Horsham District Council, mister Sutton said

809
00:47:06.400 --> 00:47:09.199
the property, which is currently up for sale for five

810
00:47:09.239 --> 00:47:12.519
point nine nine five and I didn't read that right

811
00:47:12.599 --> 00:47:17.280
five point nine to nine million pounds, operated as a

812
00:47:17.320 --> 00:47:19.719
convent in the nineteen seventies before it was bought by

813
00:47:19.800 --> 00:47:23.360
him in two thousand and three. Upon acquiring oh.

814
00:47:23.239 --> 00:47:26.679
Sorry, oh no, I just said, okay, oh fine.

815
00:47:27.360 --> 00:47:31.800
Upon acquiring it, he undertook significant refurbishment in which he

816
00:47:31.840 --> 00:47:34.639
converted the chapel used by the nuns into a family

817
00:47:34.760 --> 00:47:38.719
kitchen and installed a swimming pool, among other changes. I

818
00:47:38.760 --> 00:47:41.440
thought that was just the best convent ever. The convent,

819
00:47:41.519 --> 00:47:44.480
featuring two swimming pools, one indoor and outdoor, was beloved

820
00:47:44.480 --> 00:47:49.000
by the local nuns. Mister Sutton claimed that since renting

821
00:47:49.039 --> 00:47:51.519
the property to Adele, he has struggled to sell the

822
00:47:51.559 --> 00:47:55.360
home unfortunately. During an interview on CBS, A Dell remark

823
00:47:55.400 --> 00:47:57.280
that she believed the house to be haunted. He said

824
00:47:57.719 --> 00:48:02.039
this committed comment negatively impact future marketing efforts and continues

825
00:48:02.239 --> 00:48:04.559
to affect the property's reputation to this day.

826
00:48:05.800 --> 00:48:06.000
Yeah.

827
00:48:06.000 --> 00:48:07.679
I just think it might be that this place is

828
00:48:07.760 --> 00:48:09.079
too expensive.

829
00:48:09.039 --> 00:48:12.039
Maybe or maybe like there's stuff that's wrong with it

830
00:48:12.119 --> 00:48:14.960
too that we're not hearing about. I just I can't.

831
00:48:15.000 --> 00:48:17.320
I can't believe it's her fault. It's not her fault.

832
00:48:17.760 --> 00:48:20.639
Well, and apparently he's asking for permission to turn it

833
00:48:20.719 --> 00:48:24.480
into into three houses, so I guess they're the government

834
00:48:24.519 --> 00:48:26.920
has to tell him if he can or can't do it. Well.

835
00:48:27.000 --> 00:48:29.440
Yeah, like it's probably like there's probably a zoning issue.

836
00:48:29.760 --> 00:48:32.320
Ah yeah, I hate zoning.

837
00:48:33.000 --> 00:48:35.239
Yeah.

838
00:48:35.079 --> 00:48:37.519
Uh, the homeowner said. After Adele made the remarks, he

839
00:48:37.599 --> 00:48:41.679
relisted the house for sale and quote despite renewed marketing efforts,

840
00:48:42.079 --> 00:48:45.039
no offers were received.

841
00:48:46.960 --> 00:48:49.559
I wonder if it's just overpriced.

842
00:48:49.519 --> 00:48:50.400
That's what I was thinking.

843
00:48:50.559 --> 00:48:54.360
Yeah, that's usually why people don't, you know, pay money

844
00:48:54.360 --> 00:48:55.159
for things.

845
00:48:55.599 --> 00:49:00.599
I mean it has a helicopter pad. Yeah. How many

846
00:49:00.639 --> 00:49:03.280
people that have that kind of coin are going to

847
00:49:03.360 --> 00:49:06.000
buy that place? You know? How many people are there

848
00:49:06.000 --> 00:49:06.800
to buy that place?

849
00:49:07.039 --> 00:49:08.880
Yeah? Yeah?

850
00:49:08.960 --> 00:49:11.639
He said. He has quote actively tried to sell the

851
00:49:11.679 --> 00:49:15.400
property for about fourteen years, and despite the property being

852
00:49:15.480 --> 00:49:19.239
consistently marketed by top Asians like that of Sayvilles and

853
00:49:19.320 --> 00:49:23.280
Strutt and Parker. He said, no offers have been forthcoming.

854
00:49:23.320 --> 00:49:26.800
It sounds like it's overpriced. Man, that's before Adele only

855
00:49:26.840 --> 00:49:28.920
said these things like a couple of years ago or something.

856
00:49:30.039 --> 00:49:33.679
Yeah. Yeah, I mean even if she hadn't, it's still

857
00:49:33.719 --> 00:49:36.800
it's still definitely overpriced. Because that's why things don't sell

858
00:49:36.960 --> 00:49:39.239
that don't not sell because there's ghosts, because there are

859
00:49:39.239 --> 00:49:42.639
people who want to live places that are haunted. They

860
00:49:42.760 --> 00:49:44.840
just need to be able to afford to live there.

861
00:49:45.320 --> 00:49:46.800
Yeah, and they don't make that kind of money on

862
00:49:46.840 --> 00:49:55.079
ghost TikTok, so they do not struggle, mister Sutton added quote.

863
00:49:55.079 --> 00:49:59.639
Full marketing efforts were made, including brochures, professional photography, advertising

864
00:49:59.639 --> 00:50:03.400
and cun life national PR campaigns and exposure on all

865
00:50:03.440 --> 00:50:07.320
major property portals. The only offer received over the years

866
00:50:07.360 --> 00:50:10.199
was in August of twenty twenty, but the prospective buyer

867
00:50:10.239 --> 00:50:14.440
withdrew after learning about the property supposed haunted status, which

868
00:50:14.519 --> 00:50:18.880
was publicly mentioned by Adele during her tendency. So I'm

869
00:50:18.920 --> 00:50:22.000
assuming Chell, because you work in real estate somewhat. I

870
00:50:22.000 --> 00:50:26.119
mean you're a home inspector. When people back out of sales.

871
00:50:26.159 --> 00:50:28.840
That's almost never happens, right, Like, people almost never back

872
00:50:28.880 --> 00:50:31.840
out of buying things, right, Like, it's it would have

873
00:50:31.880 --> 00:50:34.159
to be because of a ghost because otherwise nobody ever

874
00:50:34.199 --> 00:50:36.280
says they're going to buy something and then doesn't buy.

875
00:50:36.159 --> 00:50:40.039
It, right, Yeah, I mean one of my last inspections

876
00:50:40.239 --> 00:50:42.840
that people didn't end up buying it. And it probably

877
00:50:42.920 --> 00:50:46.960
wasn't because the stove didn't work and there might have

878
00:50:47.119 --> 00:50:52.440
been mold and like I don't even remember, oh right,

879
00:50:52.480 --> 00:50:54.960
the gutter system was like just off the whole house,

880
00:50:55.039 --> 00:50:58.360
Like it wasn't those things, and how scared they were

881
00:50:58.400 --> 00:51:00.199
when I was telling them about it. It was the

882
00:51:00.199 --> 00:51:02.320
fact that they were scared because they were there, and

883
00:51:02.360 --> 00:51:05.000
the ghosts were also there standing behind me.

884
00:51:06.599 --> 00:51:11.480
And freaking out too spooky. That's the problem. That's what

885
00:51:11.519 --> 00:51:14.559
they put on the on the paperwork quote. The property.

886
00:51:14.840 --> 00:51:18.000
Property has been extensively market tested for over a decade,

887
00:51:18.079 --> 00:51:21.639
yet it has consistently failed to attract buyers. It retains

888
00:51:21.679 --> 00:51:25.679
an institutional appearance and requires substantial ongoing maintenance and refurbishment,

889
00:51:25.920 --> 00:51:28.639
which limits its appeal in the residential market. I thought

890
00:51:28.679 --> 00:51:29.519
it was ghosts.

891
00:51:29.760 --> 00:51:32.360
No, that's the real reason that you have to take

892
00:51:32.360 --> 00:51:34.480
care of two pools. You got this whole big place.

893
00:51:34.480 --> 00:51:36.880
It used to be a convent. Probably costs thousands of

894
00:51:36.920 --> 00:51:40.760
dollars to heat it. Like, no one wants that for

895
00:51:40.960 --> 00:51:41.920
six million dollars.

896
00:51:42.559 --> 00:51:44.559
No, no, they don't. And we're going to go into

897
00:51:44.599 --> 00:51:59.719
that a little bit more. Right after this, we've returned

898
00:52:00.320 --> 00:52:03.199
to figure out just how much of the lack of

899
00:52:03.280 --> 00:52:06.000
sales for this mansion are because of Adele and how

900
00:52:06.079 --> 00:52:11.719
much of it is because it's too expensive. Yeah. Quote,

901
00:52:12.159 --> 00:52:16.159
when rented out, this has been unsuccessful on all three occasions.

902
00:52:16.559 --> 00:52:19.400
The first tenant, Adele stayed for six months and blighted

903
00:52:19.440 --> 00:52:25.519
the property, saying it is haunted. Mister Sutton said there

904
00:52:25.519 --> 00:52:29.800
were also issues with the second tenant, quote, a high

905
00:52:29.880 --> 00:52:33.159
net worth individual from Monaco who only paid the first

906
00:52:33.239 --> 00:52:38.400
quarter's rent after undergoing gender reassignment surgery. Okay, so it

907
00:52:38.400 --> 00:52:40.519
looked like they just wanted to They wanted to chill

908
00:52:40.519 --> 00:52:42.280
in luxury for three months. Yeah.

909
00:52:42.480 --> 00:52:42.679
Yeah.

910
00:52:43.480 --> 00:52:46.599
Mister Sutton is seeking permission to transform the mansion into

911
00:52:46.599 --> 00:52:50.639
three houses and to also convert an existing garage and

912
00:52:50.760 --> 00:52:56.440
flat into a cottage, urging Horsham District Council to grant permission.

913
00:52:56.440 --> 00:52:59.880
He said the application represents a culmination of over thirty

914
00:53:00.239 --> 00:53:02.800
years of market testing which shows there is a lack

915
00:53:02.840 --> 00:53:05.559
of demand for the property in its current form. Okay,

916
00:53:05.719 --> 00:53:09.360
so Mirror dot co dot uk is just over selling

917
00:53:10.239 --> 00:53:12.880
the idea that this guy thinks. It's because of Adele

918
00:53:12.920 --> 00:53:16.280
and ghosts. Absolutely, because this guy's own words are saying that, like,

919
00:53:16.360 --> 00:53:18.960
clearly this property can't be sold for what it's worth,

920
00:53:19.159 --> 00:53:20.400
we need to transform it.

921
00:53:22.199 --> 00:53:24.079
And I actually think that this is all just kind

922
00:53:24.119 --> 00:53:26.639
of like a it's an advertisement.

923
00:53:26.039 --> 00:53:27.000
Again, yeah kind of.

924
00:53:27.119 --> 00:53:32.840
Yeah, so they're really good just doing that. Yeah.

925
00:53:33.519 --> 00:53:36.920
Mister Sutton was quoted saying this proposal provides the optimum

926
00:53:37.039 --> 00:53:41.559
viable use of lockhouse, preserving its historical significance while delivering

927
00:53:41.639 --> 00:53:45.920
much needed housing. It offers a balanced, balanced, sensitive and

928
00:53:45.960 --> 00:53:50.800
sustainable solution that aligns with both heritage protection and housing policies,

929
00:53:51.119 --> 00:53:54.199
ensuring the long term preservation and vitality of this important

930
00:53:54.559 --> 00:53:57.960
historical asset. The Council are yet to make a decision.

931
00:53:58.599 --> 00:54:02.360
Mister Sutton sought plan permission last year to convert the

932
00:54:02.360 --> 00:54:05.360
mansion into five flats, but this was turned down by

933
00:54:05.360 --> 00:54:08.719
the authority. He has now made this new application, which

934
00:54:08.760 --> 00:54:12.559
will be decided at a later date that would suck

935
00:54:12.599 --> 00:54:14.639
to buy something and then be unable to like do

936
00:54:14.760 --> 00:54:17.800
anything with it or even sell it for what it Yeah,

937
00:54:17.840 --> 00:54:19.280
and then and then be like, well, I want to

938
00:54:19.280 --> 00:54:20.800
do something else with it, and they'd be like, shrug

939
00:54:20.840 --> 00:54:28.800
emoji can't help you. So, speaking of shrug emoji, shell Uh,

940
00:54:28.840 --> 00:54:31.840
this is a story I had to bring up from

941
00:54:31.840 --> 00:54:38.119
the Huffington Post because it's about our old stomping grounds.

942
00:54:38.360 --> 00:54:40.639
Yeah.

943
00:54:40.480 --> 00:54:43.719
The blank reaction on your face, which is perfect. The

944
00:54:43.760 --> 00:54:48.360
headline reads New Jersey sinkhole shuts down interstate lanes reveals

945
00:54:48.519 --> 00:54:52.800
abandoned mine. Yay have you heard about this? I haven't

946
00:54:52.840 --> 00:54:53.320
heard about this.

947
00:54:53.400 --> 00:54:54.280
No, I haven't heard about this.

948
00:54:55.400 --> 00:54:59.119
Wow. Yeah, yeah, this is a whoa. So the picture

949
00:54:59.159 --> 00:55:03.039
of the sinkhole, it's literally like on the shoulder is

950
00:55:03.159 --> 00:55:06.199
just gone. I don't know how wide it is. It's

951
00:55:06.199 --> 00:55:10.719
probably like ten fifteen feet wide, and it goes under

952
00:55:10.719 --> 00:55:13.840
the guardrail, so the guardrail is actually over top of

953
00:55:13.920 --> 00:55:17.199
the sinkhole, like going across the middle of it.

954
00:55:18.760 --> 00:55:19.239
Wow.

955
00:55:19.800 --> 00:55:26.199
Yeah. Wharton, New Jersey Associated Press road crews were repairing

956
00:55:26.239 --> 00:55:29.000
a short stretch of Interstate eighty in northern New Jersey

957
00:55:29.000 --> 00:55:32.239
on Friday, where a sinkhole forced the eastbound lanes to

958
00:55:32.280 --> 00:55:35.920
shut down, but it was still unknown when they will reopen.

959
00:55:36.960 --> 00:55:40.159
The highway's guardrail still hung suspended in the air across

960
00:55:40.159 --> 00:55:42.719
the gaping Oh. Wow, I was way off forty foot

961
00:55:42.760 --> 00:55:47.960
wide hole. Wow, which opened up when an abandoned mine

962
00:55:48.000 --> 00:55:51.840
collapsed under the highway's right shoulder Thursday morning. According to

963
00:55:51.880 --> 00:55:55.639
the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the sinkhole has forced

964
00:55:55.679 --> 00:55:58.679
motorists to take a short detour near Wharton, which is

965
00:55:58.719 --> 00:56:02.679
about forty miles west of New York City. Wow. I

966
00:56:02.679 --> 00:56:07.079
would have been on that highway just two weeks before.

967
00:56:07.119 --> 00:56:09.119
This was December twenty eighth. I would have been on

968
00:56:09.119 --> 00:56:11.079
that highway like just two weeks earlier.

969
00:56:11.559 --> 00:56:14.159
Wow. Yeah, you would the sinkhole.

970
00:56:15.679 --> 00:56:19.079
I mean, I appreciate that you think I could do that.

971
00:56:19.159 --> 00:56:22.360
I would do a good job like that. Be remembered

972
00:56:22.360 --> 00:56:24.320
as the guy who went into the New Jersey sinkhole.

973
00:56:24.679 --> 00:56:26.480
Yeah.

974
00:56:26.559 --> 00:56:29.679
I just found this extremely like shocking to look at

975
00:56:30.039 --> 00:56:33.000
his giant hole just pops up in the highway. It

976
00:56:33.039 --> 00:56:36.840
also gave me like memories of Centralia, Pennsylvania, the town

977
00:56:36.880 --> 00:56:39.400
on fire, the idea of like they're just being big

978
00:56:39.440 --> 00:56:42.079
holes that would just pop up and have smoke billowing

979
00:56:42.119 --> 00:56:46.880
out of them and all of that very eerie concept. Yes,

980
00:56:47.519 --> 00:56:51.880
and sinkholes are scary. The concept of them is terrifying.

981
00:56:52.960 --> 00:56:57.280
Rachel's former house had a sinkhole underneath it, and I

982
00:56:57.360 --> 00:57:01.920
was like, that's not good and what that means. I

983
00:57:02.079 --> 00:57:04.440
you know, I'm not a smart man. I don't know things.

984
00:57:04.920 --> 00:57:09.559
Leave me alone. The end crews have stabilized the area

985
00:57:09.599 --> 00:57:12.639
and started excavating. They will work around the clock to

986
00:57:12.679 --> 00:57:19.280
repair the roadway to the repair guys at Huffington Post

987
00:57:19.280 --> 00:57:23.519
get a copywriter to repair the highway, the Highway Department

988
00:57:23.559 --> 00:57:27.840
said Friday. The timing of when the eastbound lanes will open,

989
00:57:29.400 --> 00:57:33.679
it says upon UPO N, but it means open will

990
00:57:33.719 --> 00:57:37.199
open depends on how extensive the repairs will be and

991
00:57:37.239 --> 00:57:40.559
the upcoming weather. Oh yeah, it's gonna be cold. The

992
00:57:40.559 --> 00:57:43.960
department said. Drivers should continue to expect delays and use

993
00:57:44.000 --> 00:57:46.960
alternate routes. Well, you know, the good news is, you know,

994
00:57:47.159 --> 00:57:52.199
Interstate eighty doesn't get horribly congested every single day due

995
00:57:52.280 --> 00:57:55.599
to New Yorkers coming in and leaving, or will people

996
00:57:55.599 --> 00:57:59.119
who work in New York coming and going. I remember

997
00:57:59.119 --> 00:58:00.840
when I first was living in Jersey. I lived really

998
00:58:00.880 --> 00:58:03.880
close to eighty and I was shocked because one time

999
00:58:03.880 --> 00:58:07.440
I was heading I was heading west and on the

1000
00:58:07.480 --> 00:58:10.280
east side. You know, it was just traffic, bumper to

1001
00:58:10.320 --> 00:58:13.519
bumper traffic heading into the city, and it went all

1002
00:58:13.559 --> 00:58:14.679
the way into Pennsylvania.

1003
00:58:15.400 --> 00:58:15.920
Wow.

1004
00:58:16.360 --> 00:58:17.920
Now I'm not saying it's that way every morning, but

1005
00:58:17.960 --> 00:58:19.199
it was that way that morning.

1006
00:58:19.480 --> 00:58:20.039
Wow.

1007
00:58:20.400 --> 00:58:23.440
I was in awe. I couldn't believe that traffic would

1008
00:58:23.480 --> 00:58:26.039
go all the way into another state.

1009
00:58:27.159 --> 00:58:27.880
It's insane.

1010
00:58:28.079 --> 00:58:30.599
Yeah, it was. It was nuts. It made me very

1011
00:58:30.639 --> 00:58:32.559
glad that I was going the other way.

1012
00:58:33.000 --> 00:58:33.440
Yeah.

1013
00:58:33.639 --> 00:58:36.880
Yeah, I did not want to be going Yeah. I

1014
00:58:36.920 --> 00:58:39.280
did not want to be going east, that's for sure.

1015
00:58:39.760 --> 00:58:42.480
So New Jersey sinkhole. Do you even know how they

1016
00:58:42.519 --> 00:58:46.800
fix a sinkhole? I don't even know. You fill it in, yeah,

1017
00:58:46.920 --> 00:58:48.519
does it'll eventually stop sinking?

1018
00:58:49.360 --> 00:58:52.119
Well, I mean it sunk because there was a mine

1019
00:58:52.199 --> 00:58:54.039
under it. So you just fill in the mine and

1020
00:58:54.079 --> 00:58:54.599
then you're good.

1021
00:58:54.719 --> 00:58:59.719
Basically Okay, So it says it usually involves excavating down

1022
00:58:59.719 --> 00:59:03.199
to rock, sealing the cavity with specialized grout, and then

1023
00:59:03.320 --> 00:59:06.000
back filling with layers of rock, gravel, and soil.

1024
00:59:06.599 --> 00:59:07.480
Yeah, you fill it in.

1025
00:59:09.199 --> 00:59:12.480
It's a you know, okay, fine, No, you're right, you're right. No,

1026
00:59:12.599 --> 00:59:15.320
you're fine, you're right, you're right. You just fill it in.

1027
00:59:15.480 --> 00:59:17.079
And it was a really cool idea of the way

1028
00:59:17.119 --> 00:59:18.800
that guy killed that guy and said it was a bear.

1029
00:59:19.039 --> 00:59:20.679
You're on a roll this week.

1030
00:59:22.159 --> 00:59:24.119
You know, my neighborhood that I grew up in had

1031
00:59:24.119 --> 00:59:25.519
a bunch of sinkholes in it.

1032
00:59:26.320 --> 00:59:27.639
Did you like jumping them for fun?

1033
00:59:28.159 --> 00:59:31.440
No? No, they just appeared. They started appearing all over

1034
00:59:31.440 --> 00:59:35.760
the place and the hoa and everyone had to figure

1035
00:59:35.760 --> 00:59:37.559
out what it was. And it turns out when they

1036
00:59:37.639 --> 00:59:40.039
built the houses, they just dumped all of the construction

1037
00:59:40.119 --> 00:59:42.719
material and trees that they cut down and just just

1038
00:59:42.800 --> 00:59:46.960
covered over them, so like whole areas had to be

1039
00:59:47.000 --> 00:59:50.679
excavated and fixed. It was great. They were such a

1040
00:59:50.719 --> 00:59:52.280
good such a good building company.

1041
00:59:52.679 --> 00:59:55.719
Do they sound wonderful? Just like what i'd expect from

1042
00:59:55.760 --> 01:00:00.519
quality New Jersey construction. We're gonna take a quick break.

1043
01:00:00.519 --> 01:00:11.039
It will be right back, all right. We're back heading

1044
01:00:11.039 --> 01:00:15.079
to the Huffington Post one more time this month, and

1045
01:00:15.199 --> 01:00:19.639
this one is a little more feel good because Michelle

1046
01:00:19.679 --> 01:00:21.880
was enjoying the feel bad stories a little too much

1047
01:00:21.920 --> 01:00:25.719
for my comfort. I just made me a little uncomfortable,

1048
01:00:25.719 --> 01:00:31.480
a little nervous. The headline of this is moose rescued

1049
01:00:31.519 --> 01:00:39.159
after falling through ice in New York. Sure it sounds fun, right,

1050
01:00:39.320 --> 01:00:41.079
I mean they save a moose.

1051
01:00:41.760 --> 01:00:43.960
Yeah, yeah, sure, whatever.

1052
01:00:43.760 --> 01:00:45.400
Unless it turns out this whole thing is just a

1053
01:00:45.440 --> 01:00:47.159
scheme to get insurance money.

1054
01:00:48.320 --> 01:00:49.440
Not even a real moose.

1055
01:00:49.960 --> 01:00:54.519
God damn it. A bull moose that fell through lake

1056
01:00:54.599 --> 01:00:57.639
ice in the Adirondack Mountains was saved by New York

1057
01:00:57.679 --> 01:01:01.880
Conservation officials in a laborious cold water rescue. This was,

1058
01:01:01.920 --> 01:01:05.960
by the way, this was on the sixteenth of January.

1059
01:01:06.039 --> 01:01:08.239
This is very recent. It was really cold.

1060
01:01:08.559 --> 01:01:10.280
Yeah. Yeah.

1061
01:01:10.559 --> 01:01:13.320
The moose fell through the ice around eleven am Thursday,

1062
01:01:13.480 --> 01:01:16.639
about two hundred feet from the shore on Lake Abanaki.

1063
01:01:17.239 --> 01:01:20.400
The New York State Department of Environmental Conference Conservation announced

1064
01:01:20.400 --> 01:01:22.920
in a statement Friday that lake is near the town

1065
01:01:23.000 --> 01:01:26.079
of Indian Lake, about sixty miles south of Lake Placid

1066
01:01:26.360 --> 01:01:30.400
and west of the Vermont border. We have an Indian

1067
01:01:30.440 --> 01:01:36.920
Lake in Ohio too. Quote. There's not there's no training

1068
01:01:36.960 --> 01:01:39.679
manual for getting moose out of the ice, said Environmental

1069
01:01:39.679 --> 01:01:44.440
Conservation Police officer Lieutenant Robert Higgins in a video statement

1070
01:01:44.480 --> 01:01:47.800
recounting the event. Also it said there's not training manual

1071
01:01:47.840 --> 01:01:49.440
because Huffington Post does not care.

1072
01:01:49.599 --> 01:01:51.320
What are they doing? Yeah?

1073
01:01:51.400 --> 01:01:55.159
No. Higgins was dispatched to the lake thanks to a

1074
01:01:55.199 --> 01:01:57.599
passer by who saw the moose break through the ice

1075
01:01:57.679 --> 01:02:00.440
and called it in. Higgins asked for back and was

1076
01:02:00.519 --> 01:02:05.599
quickly joined by a pair of forest rangers. Moose are huge.

1077
01:02:05.960 --> 01:02:12.480
They are like, they're really really big. I went into

1078
01:02:12.679 --> 01:02:15.760
like a Cabella's or something, and they had a moose there,

1079
01:02:15.800 --> 01:02:19.639
like a stuffed moose, and I was legitimately in awe

1080
01:02:19.639 --> 01:02:22.679
at how big it was. Wow, Like it startled me.

1081
01:02:22.719 --> 01:02:25.119
I was just like, what, how is it this big?

1082
01:02:26.880 --> 01:02:28.119
I wasn't expecting that.

1083
01:02:29.159 --> 01:02:30.599
I wish I could see a moose.

1084
01:02:32.480 --> 01:02:38.840
There's gotta be Are there moose anywhere by you? No pathetic?

1085
01:02:39.400 --> 01:02:42.440
In New York, moose are sometimes poached by humans, and

1086
01:02:42.480 --> 01:02:45.599
a handful die every year due to being hit by cars,

1087
01:02:46.039 --> 01:02:49.239
according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

1088
01:02:49.679 --> 01:02:53.199
Across the US, these giant deer cousins faced challenges from

1089
01:02:53.320 --> 01:02:57.039
human caused habitat loss and human caused climate change that

1090
01:02:57.119 --> 01:03:00.639
has led to warm summers and oppressive tick emphasis stations,

1091
01:03:00.880 --> 01:03:04.800
which can cause them to lose their fur. Wow. For

1092
01:03:04.880 --> 01:03:07.880
this moose, the humans came to help. Moose can die

1093
01:03:07.920 --> 01:03:11.199
from hypothermia and they can't easily climb onto the ice

1094
01:03:11.280 --> 01:03:15.920
once they've fallen through into water. Ice rescue rescues. ICE

1095
01:03:16.000 --> 01:03:21.400
rescues are dangerous because the rescuers can also fall through. Quote.

1096
01:03:21.679 --> 01:03:24.039
We were able to use our ice rescue training to

1097
01:03:24.159 --> 01:03:28.000
safely get out there, said forest ranger Evan Nahor in

1098
01:03:28.079 --> 01:03:31.800
a video statement. First, they put on dry suits so

1099
01:03:31.840 --> 01:03:33.920
they would float and stay warm if they ended up

1100
01:03:33.960 --> 01:03:37.199
in the water. Then they used a long metal spud

1101
01:03:37.239 --> 01:03:40.679
bar to test the thickness of the ice, which varied

1102
01:03:40.719 --> 01:03:45.039
from about one to four inches. Wow, I forget now,

1103
01:03:45.079 --> 01:03:47.360
I think four inches of ice will hold an insane

1104
01:03:47.360 --> 01:03:51.000
amount of weight. Yeah, I don't now, I have to know.

1105
01:03:51.639 --> 01:03:56.880
Can four inches of ice hold eight pounds?

1106
01:03:57.199 --> 01:03:57.760
Wow?

1107
01:03:58.639 --> 01:04:02.000
So four inches of eight hundred pounds? Five inches twelve

1108
01:04:02.159 --> 01:04:06.599
fifty six inches eighteen hundred seven inches two four hundred

1109
01:04:06.599 --> 01:04:12.119
and fifty wow? Yeah? So like yeah, So the rule

1110
01:04:12.119 --> 01:04:15.400
of thumb is two inches of ice or less stay off.

1111
01:04:16.000 --> 01:04:18.840
Three inches can support one person in their gear. Four

1112
01:04:18.840 --> 01:04:21.440
inches can support a small group of people walking in

1113
01:04:21.480 --> 01:04:24.719
a single file line. Five inches can support a small

1114
01:04:24.719 --> 01:04:27.000
group of people walking in a single file line with

1115
01:04:27.079 --> 01:04:29.960
a total weight of several hundred kilograms, seven and a

1116
01:04:30.000 --> 01:04:32.440
half can support a light car, eight inches can support

1117
01:04:32.440 --> 01:04:35.320
a light truck, and ten inches can support a medium

1118
01:04:35.360 --> 01:04:39.480
sized truck. Okay, I learned that because when I went

1119
01:04:39.559 --> 01:04:42.639
ski doing they had said that the ice was like

1120
01:04:42.719 --> 01:04:44.559
eight inches and I was like, oh god, and they

1121
01:04:44.559 --> 01:04:46.840
were like that, like do you see that pickup truck

1122
01:04:46.880 --> 01:04:49.800
on the ice right there? And I was like, oh, okay,

1123
01:04:49.840 --> 01:04:54.519
never mind. But yeah, they said that was about that.

1124
01:04:54.559 --> 01:04:57.480
It varied from one inch to four inches. Wow, that's

1125
01:04:57.719 --> 01:04:58.559
a lot of variants.

1126
01:04:58.880 --> 01:04:59.679
Yeah.

1127
01:05:00.119 --> 01:05:02.360
They brought safety ropes so that if one fell in,

1128
01:05:02.400 --> 01:05:05.039
the others could pull them out. They navigated a path

1129
01:05:05.079 --> 01:05:07.719
across the lake, following the thickest path to the moose

1130
01:05:07.760 --> 01:05:11.440
without breaking through, and knelt on sleds to distribute their weight.

1131
01:05:12.159 --> 01:05:14.920
The forest rangers used a chainsaw to cut away sections

1132
01:05:14.920 --> 01:05:17.639
of ice connecting the area where the moose broke through

1133
01:05:17.920 --> 01:05:20.679
to a thicker section of ice, while Higgins pushed the

1134
01:05:20.719 --> 01:05:23.320
ice blocks underneath the channel to get them out of

1135
01:05:23.400 --> 01:05:26.920
the way. Do you have you walked much on frozen

1136
01:05:27.119 --> 01:05:27.880
frozen lakes.

1137
01:05:28.239 --> 01:05:29.360
No, no, I haven't.

1138
01:05:30.199 --> 01:05:32.559
It is a wild experience when it's a lake so

1139
01:05:32.679 --> 01:05:35.719
big that you're basically in a desert, like it just

1140
01:05:35.840 --> 01:05:39.519
is a desert when it's frozen. One of my favorite

1141
01:05:39.559 --> 01:05:41.719
memories when I first got Henwolf was taking her to

1142
01:05:41.760 --> 01:05:45.000
the park in the winter and the water had frozen

1143
01:05:45.000 --> 01:05:47.800
over in this little pond and was she just like,

1144
01:05:47.880 --> 01:05:49.519
with all the confidence in the world, just was gonna

1145
01:05:49.559 --> 01:05:52.960
walk onto it. Yeah, and no thought it all just like, oh,

1146
01:05:53.159 --> 01:05:56.280
ll walk over here now. And it immediately broke and

1147
01:05:56.320 --> 01:05:58.639
I grabbed her because luckily I saw what she was doing,

1148
01:05:58.920 --> 01:06:01.079
so I grabbed her and only her back legs got

1149
01:06:01.079 --> 01:06:03.280
like stuck in the cold water for a minute, so

1150
01:06:03.360 --> 01:06:05.119
like pulled her out and I was like, oh my god,

1151
01:06:05.239 --> 01:06:07.199
and she was just looking at me like what And

1152
01:06:07.199 --> 01:06:08.639
then we had to walk to the car with like

1153
01:06:08.679 --> 01:06:11.559
her butt and like freezing because it was so cold

1154
01:06:11.559 --> 01:06:13.719
out and soaking wet. It was very very funny though,

1155
01:06:14.039 --> 01:06:15.679
but yeah, she was just like I'll walk here. This

1156
01:06:15.719 --> 01:06:19.079
is clearly solid. Yeah, no no worries at all. Very

1157
01:06:19.079 --> 01:06:22.320
similar to a moose. Hendwolf was the hope was for

1158
01:06:22.400 --> 01:06:24.679
the moose. To swim down the channel and climb out.

1159
01:06:24.840 --> 01:06:29.880
A bull moose can weigh around one thousand pounds. Wow.

1160
01:06:30.159 --> 01:06:33.280
Yeah, so it really it really wouldn't be supported on

1161
01:06:33.320 --> 01:06:35.719
an inch of ice at all, not at all.

1162
01:06:35.800 --> 01:06:38.280
No, and you see why I said, like they're huge,

1163
01:06:38.719 --> 01:06:42.119
like a thousand pounds. Yeah, so there wasn't much do

1164
01:06:43.239 --> 01:06:45.880
what what did you say?

1165
01:06:45.960 --> 01:06:47.960
I said, I don't even weigh a thousand pounds.

1166
01:06:48.239 --> 01:06:51.519
You pretty far away from a thousand pounds, my friend.

1167
01:06:51.480 --> 01:06:51.960
I guess.

1168
01:06:52.079 --> 01:06:55.119
Yeah. I'm always amazed when we're hanging out and we

1169
01:06:55.199 --> 01:06:57.960
go into like a safeway and the auto door opens

1170
01:06:57.960 --> 01:06:58.840
when you step on it.

1171
01:06:59.239 --> 01:07:02.320
Yeah. Yeah, I assume your pockets are full of rocks.

1172
01:07:01.840 --> 01:07:07.440
Oh yeah, it doesn't always close. That's because you have

1173
01:07:07.440 --> 01:07:12.519
no soul. Yeah, so the Simpsons pointed out, so there

1174
01:07:12.599 --> 01:07:14.519
was but yeah, because it was one thousand pounds, there

1175
01:07:14.559 --> 01:07:16.280
wasn't much chance of them being able to pull it

1176
01:07:16.280 --> 01:07:19.760
out safely. The moose didn't swim toward the thick ice,

1177
01:07:19.840 --> 01:07:22.039
so they tried to herd it down the channel they

1178
01:07:22.039 --> 01:07:25.400
had cut. The bull moose wasn't intimidated by the officials

1179
01:07:25.519 --> 01:07:32.440
or their big metal sticks. It was intimidated by their sleds. Oh,

1180
01:07:32.480 --> 01:07:35.800
for whatever reason, it was scared of those, so once

1181
01:07:35.840 --> 01:07:37.880
we got behind it, we were able to direct it,

1182
01:07:37.880 --> 01:07:41.880
said Matt Severi, the other forest ranger. The giant moose

1183
01:07:41.960 --> 01:07:44.559
quickly crawled onto the ice, but the cold and constant

1184
01:07:44.599 --> 01:07:48.239
treading water the ordeal lasted around two hours, had taken

1185
01:07:48.280 --> 01:07:52.519
its toll. Quote. It was really tired. I was shivering it.

1186
01:07:53.079 --> 01:07:55.239
I think it meant to say it was shivering. Maybe

1187
01:07:56.920 --> 01:07:59.880
it was shivering. It didn't have much energy left, Higgins said.

1188
01:08:00.199 --> 01:08:01.679
We didn't know if it was going to be able

1189
01:08:01.719 --> 01:08:06.599
to stand up or not. After fifteen minutes it died. No,

1190
01:08:06.920 --> 01:08:09.119
it found its footing and got up.

1191
01:08:09.599 --> 01:08:10.000
Good.

1192
01:08:11.599 --> 01:08:12.920
I had to say for the look on your face,

1193
01:08:13.000 --> 01:08:16.079
Chow quote, it was just an amazing sight to see

1194
01:08:16.079 --> 01:08:18.439
that huge moose stand up right in front of us,

1195
01:08:18.479 --> 01:08:22.279
he said. Then it walked off into the woods.

1196
01:08:22.680 --> 01:08:24.319
It didn't even say thank you.

1197
01:08:25.520 --> 01:08:27.680
Moose are like that, man. You can't hold it against them.

1198
01:08:27.880 --> 01:08:28.800
It's how they're raised.

1199
01:08:29.199 --> 01:08:32.479
Oh, it's not you're not supposed to say things like that.

1200
01:08:34.640 --> 01:08:36.640
Well, we're gonna take a quick break. We've got one

1201
01:08:36.640 --> 01:08:39.000
more piece of spooky news that I think is worth sharing,

1202
01:08:39.359 --> 01:08:42.279
and then we'll jump into our topic. Of snuff films

1203
01:08:42.720 --> 01:08:52.079
right after this, All right, we're back with one more

1204
01:08:52.119 --> 01:08:57.079
piece of spooky news from the often revered Mirror dot

1205
01:08:57.119 --> 01:09:01.159
co dot uk. And this one I wanted to share

1206
01:09:01.199 --> 01:09:04.000
because I was curious by reading the headline. It sure

1207
01:09:04.119 --> 01:09:07.479
sounded like it wasn't like it was a BS and

1208
01:09:07.520 --> 01:09:09.840
I want to hear your opinion on this. Chill okay.

1209
01:09:10.680 --> 01:09:15.680
The headline family terrified by paranormal activity and begged counsel

1210
01:09:15.760 --> 01:09:21.600
for new home after objects quote fly around. Okay, a

1211
01:09:21.800 --> 01:09:26.039
mom told a court par told a court paranormal activity

1212
01:09:26.159 --> 01:09:30.960
in her council What told a court paranormal activity in

1213
01:09:31.000 --> 01:09:32.159
her council home left her?

1214
01:09:32.680 --> 01:09:37.039
Okay to court that yeah, yeah, yeah.

1215
01:09:36.000 --> 01:09:38.319
That was a little confusing. Verse A mom told a

1216
01:09:38.399 --> 01:09:42.279
court paranormal activity in her council home left her terrified

1217
01:09:42.319 --> 01:09:45.600
for her children's safety as objects in the house quote

1218
01:09:45.760 --> 01:09:50.000
flew around. Thomas and Louise Stokes told the High Court

1219
01:09:50.039 --> 01:09:53.239
in Ireland their family could not stay at the house

1220
01:09:53.479 --> 01:09:57.119
given to them given to them, owing to concerns for

1221
01:09:57.159 --> 01:10:01.439
their health because of a mold problem. However, Miss Stokes

1222
01:10:01.520 --> 01:10:07.079
told mister Justice Garrett Mister Justice Garrett Simmons Simons a

1223
01:10:07.159 --> 01:10:10.039
new property they were moved to has caused her to

1224
01:10:10.039 --> 01:10:14.319
be fearful for her children due to paranormal activity. Hmmm,

1225
01:10:15.239 --> 01:10:17.359
it sounds like she's just gonna have a problem with everywhere.

1226
01:10:17.800 --> 01:10:20.159
Oh there's mold. Oh there's ghosts.

1227
01:10:20.600 --> 01:10:22.399
Yeah, Like they don't like it, and they don't see

1228
01:10:22.399 --> 01:10:24.199
any mold, so they've got to make something up.

1229
01:10:24.520 --> 01:10:28.079
Like a hell. We were hoping for mold. Yeah. The

1230
01:10:28.159 --> 01:10:32.039
mom told proceedings how since they moved in, numerous objects

1231
01:10:32.039 --> 01:10:35.159
in their new house had been flown from side to side,

1232
01:10:35.560 --> 01:10:38.520
while doors and a table and chairs were moving in

1233
01:10:38.560 --> 01:10:41.640
front of our eyes. She claims while making food for

1234
01:10:41.680 --> 01:10:44.439
her children, objects flew out of the cupboard she'd open.

1235
01:10:48.319 --> 01:10:50.520
Maybe and maybe the kids are just throwing stuff at her.

1236
01:10:50.960 --> 01:10:51.800
Yeah.

1237
01:10:51.920 --> 01:10:56.159
Miss miss Stokes said she contacted the previous occupant of

1238
01:10:56.159 --> 01:10:58.800
the house, who wrote them a letter the applicant described

1239
01:10:58.840 --> 01:11:00.800
as beyond traumatic.

1240
01:11:01.720 --> 01:11:02.319
Wow.

1241
01:11:04.960 --> 01:11:07.119
She claimed she brought the letter to the attention of

1242
01:11:07.119 --> 01:11:10.319
the council but was quote laughed at in a meeting.

1243
01:11:12.279 --> 01:11:15.520
That's extra funny when you imagine they're all Irish. A

1244
01:11:15.520 --> 01:11:17.800
bunch of Irish people laughing at once just sounds very funny,

1245
01:11:18.800 --> 01:11:22.039
she said. Quote. Everyone deserves a home. I never asked

1246
01:11:22.039 --> 01:11:24.159
for a mansion. I asked for a safe home for

1247
01:11:24.279 --> 01:11:27.039
my kids. I just want somewhere safe for my kids.

1248
01:11:27.079 --> 01:11:31.680
Five days before Christmas, the Irish Mirror reported that is sad,

1249
01:11:31.760 --> 01:11:37.199
but also this is very strange. The High Court heard

1250
01:11:37.239 --> 01:11:39.359
how the mold in the first property was so bad

1251
01:11:39.359 --> 01:11:43.000
the entire family had to sleep downstairs instead of their bedrooms.

1252
01:11:43.399 --> 01:11:46.479
They also had to make several hospital visits. The couple

1253
01:11:46.520 --> 01:11:48.560
claim in the five years they lived in the property,

1254
01:11:48.600 --> 01:11:53.039
the people with mold became so bad. The problem, sorry,

1255
01:11:53.039 --> 01:11:55.600
the problem of both that was on me became so

1256
01:11:55.760 --> 01:11:58.359
bad that they were forced to leave and live temporarily

1257
01:11:58.399 --> 01:12:02.800
with relatives before returning to the house. They were there

1258
01:12:02.840 --> 01:12:03.840
for a very long time.

1259
01:12:04.119 --> 01:12:05.800
Mm hmm yeah.

1260
01:12:05.920 --> 01:12:08.760
The court heard the council placed the family on a

1261
01:12:08.880 --> 01:12:12.079
transfer list and the offer of a new property was

1262
01:12:12.119 --> 01:12:16.279
accepted by the Stoke by the Stokes. In October at

1263
01:12:16.279 --> 01:12:21.399
the High Court, Mister Justice Simons struck out the Stokes's

1264
01:12:21.520 --> 01:12:26.000
claim against the Lettterman County Council. Mister Justice Simon said

1265
01:12:26.039 --> 01:12:28.920
the claim before him only related to the first property

1266
01:12:29.119 --> 01:12:31.279
and that if there were new claims they would have

1267
01:12:31.319 --> 01:12:35.600
to be lodged separately with the court. So it's a technicality.

1268
01:12:36.239 --> 01:12:38.159
Yeah, jeez.

1269
01:12:39.800 --> 01:12:42.560
Mister Justice Simon said the only case before him was

1270
01:12:42.560 --> 01:12:45.239
in relation to the first house and quote, the case

1271
01:12:45.279 --> 01:12:47.720
has come and gone as it were, due to the

1272
01:12:47.760 --> 01:12:51.000
Stokes is transferring to the new house. He told miss

1273
01:12:51.000 --> 01:12:54.560
Stokes he understood her concern about the second house experiencing quote,

1274
01:12:54.920 --> 01:12:58.640
paranormal activity and her fears for the safety of her children,

1275
01:12:58.920 --> 01:13:01.279
but a third house would mean a new application to

1276
01:13:01.359 --> 01:13:05.399
the local authority. So you're not even saying like you're

1277
01:13:05.439 --> 01:13:08.079
crazy because there are ghosts. At least in that statement,

1278
01:13:10.560 --> 01:13:13.079
they're saying like you have to file the proper paper.

1279
01:13:13.680 --> 01:13:19.479
Yes, yeah, that's good.

1280
01:13:20.399 --> 01:13:26.840
Huh. I I don't even know how to take that.

1281
01:13:28.520 --> 01:13:29.239
It's bizarre.

1282
01:13:29.640 --> 01:13:31.920
I mean, it's not much of a story. It's just

1283
01:13:32.000 --> 01:13:32.479
kind of no.

1284
01:13:32.600 --> 01:13:36.319
I mean, basically they they didn't file for a new house,

1285
01:13:36.359 --> 01:13:39.560
but also didn't get a new house. But it's because

1286
01:13:39.600 --> 01:13:43.079
of ghosts and not mold. Could the mold be making

1287
01:13:43.119 --> 01:13:47.640
them hallucinate? Like they've been exposed to the mold for

1288
01:13:47.680 --> 01:13:50.039
so long that it's like that now they're like going

1289
01:13:50.039 --> 01:13:52.600
through withdrawals of wishing they had mold in them in

1290
01:13:52.640 --> 01:13:53.640
their lungs.

1291
01:13:54.119 --> 01:13:55.319
I don't know who knows.

1292
01:13:55.680 --> 01:13:58.479
Maybe sure, I mean I don't think that's how that

1293
01:13:58.520 --> 01:14:03.159
works at all. But also but also like we could

1294
01:14:03.239 --> 01:14:06.079
just say it is how it works, because that's how

1295
01:14:06.119 --> 01:14:06.560
it works.

1296
01:14:06.680 --> 01:14:08.960
We don't know what kind of heat how they have.

1297
01:14:09.079 --> 01:14:11.560
Maybe they have a carbon monoxide leak at that place.

1298
01:14:12.840 --> 01:14:17.199
I mean they didn't mention that. And carbon monoxide. I mean,

1299
01:14:17.239 --> 01:14:20.640
Reddit has taught us that if you are concerned about anything,

1300
01:14:20.680 --> 01:14:22.800
you need to check your carbon make sure you have

1301
01:14:22.840 --> 01:14:27.560
a carbon monoxide detector. Yeah, because if you don't, it's

1302
01:14:27.560 --> 01:14:33.960
probably the problem. Yeah. So well, unfortunately that's all the info.

1303
01:14:34.000 --> 01:14:35.920
I thought they'd give us a little bit more than that.

1304
01:14:36.439 --> 01:14:37.920
I guess that's really all they had.

1305
01:14:39.000 --> 01:14:42.239
I guess so, and there weren't nearly enough spelling errors.

1306
01:14:42.560 --> 01:14:47.640
So yeah, but uh, we're going to take a really

1307
01:14:47.720 --> 01:14:50.119
quick break, and when we get back, we're going to

1308
01:14:50.199 --> 01:14:54.279
jump into our topic for this month, which is the notorious,

1309
01:14:55.279 --> 01:15:00.840
really legend known as snuff films and what there is

1310
01:15:01.000 --> 01:15:03.680
to the truth of the matter. We'll get to that

1311
01:15:04.359 --> 01:15:07.439
right after this, assuming that we don't have to move

1312
01:15:07.439 --> 01:15:10.119
to another podcast because this one is haunted or worse,

1313
01:15:10.439 --> 01:15:23.800
has mold. But we'll be right back, all right, Shell, Yeah,

1314
01:15:23.880 --> 01:15:25.520
I have a question for you, and I need you

1315
01:15:25.520 --> 01:15:31.600
to answer me. Okay, have you heard of the term

1316
01:15:32.159 --> 01:15:32.920
snuff film?

1317
01:15:33.520 --> 01:15:33.880
Yes?

1318
01:15:35.560 --> 01:15:37.600
When did you first hear of it? Or what was

1319
01:15:37.640 --> 01:15:40.720
the first context of your understanding of stuff films?

1320
01:15:40.920 --> 01:15:44.600
I have no idea, I just know it.

1321
01:15:45.359 --> 01:15:48.720
Okay, what in your definition? What is a snuff film?

1322
01:15:49.039 --> 01:15:51.960
Isn't it a like a film where like, you kill somebody.

1323
01:15:53.840 --> 01:15:54.399
But not real?

1324
01:15:55.439 --> 01:15:56.000
Yeah?

1325
01:15:56.039 --> 01:16:01.279
Wait, said, keep going, but it's not real. No, that's

1326
01:16:01.319 --> 01:16:04.319
the opposite. A stuff film is where you actually kill somebody.

1327
01:16:04.520 --> 01:16:06.520
Yeah. Yeah, but I'm saying I don't know if there's

1328
01:16:06.560 --> 01:16:07.439
any real ones.

1329
01:16:08.199 --> 01:16:11.079
Oh yeah, Well that is the that is the debate

1330
01:16:11.680 --> 01:16:14.279
is whether stuff films exist. So to get a little

1331
01:16:14.319 --> 01:16:17.279
bit more specific before we dive into the incredibly accurate

1332
01:16:17.319 --> 01:16:22.399
and always perfect Wikipedia page for stuff films, it's important

1333
01:16:22.399 --> 01:16:26.399
to bear in mind that there are films. There's there's

1334
01:16:26.479 --> 01:16:31.720
there's captured video and film of people actually dying, but

1335
01:16:31.920 --> 01:16:35.760
that doesn't entirely make it a snuff film. A snuff

1336
01:16:35.760 --> 01:16:39.479
film is the concept that a murder is committed for

1337
01:16:39.560 --> 01:16:44.720
the purpose of entertainment. Yeah, so if somebody is killed,

1338
01:16:44.720 --> 01:16:47.079
they're killed for the film. They're not filmed because they're

1339
01:16:47.079 --> 01:16:50.960
being killed, right there. Yeah, so that's a good way

1340
01:16:50.960 --> 01:16:54.199
to put it. They're they're they're killed. They're killed for

1341
01:16:54.239 --> 01:16:57.479
being filmed, not filmed because they're being killed. Yeah, that

1342
01:16:57.520 --> 01:16:59.000
may have made sense. I don't know, Leave me alone.

1343
01:17:01.079 --> 01:17:04.079
So we're going to dive into the Wikipedia article a

1344
01:17:04.079 --> 01:17:06.960
little bit. But there is a lot of hemming and

1345
01:17:06.960 --> 01:17:10.159
haweing about snuff movies for a very long time, the

1346
01:17:10.159 --> 01:17:12.399
belief that they exist on the black market, and of

1347
01:17:12.399 --> 01:17:15.000
course when the deep web and the dark web became

1348
01:17:15.479 --> 01:17:18.279
in the national lexicon, then it became that's where they

1349
01:17:18.279 --> 01:17:20.960
sell snuff movies. The idea that the snuff movies are

1350
01:17:20.960 --> 01:17:25.439
being sold on you know, in South America, all these elements.

1351
01:17:25.479 --> 01:17:30.119
There's a lot to it. So but of course Wikipedia

1352
01:17:30.319 --> 01:17:34.479
always clears the air in a safe, accurate, and fair way.

1353
01:17:35.840 --> 01:17:38.439
The concept of snuff films became known to the general

1354
01:17:38.479 --> 01:17:42.399
public during the nineteen seventies, when a conspiracy theory alleged

1355
01:17:42.439 --> 01:17:46.640
that a clandestine industry was producing such films for profit.

1356
01:17:47.840 --> 01:17:50.439
The rumor was amplified in nineteen seventy six by the

1357
01:17:50.439 --> 01:17:54.399
release of the film called Snuff, which capitalized on the

1358
01:17:54.439 --> 01:17:59.520
legend through a disingenuous marketing campaign. I've seen snuff it

1359
01:17:59.560 --> 01:18:01.840
is in no way, it's not even like a stuff film.

1360
01:18:01.840 --> 01:18:05.840
It's just a movie, Okay. I mean it's just a film,

1361
01:18:05.880 --> 01:18:08.159
like it's a normal kind of film about a stuff

1362
01:18:08.199 --> 01:18:09.079
film being made.

1363
01:18:09.119 --> 01:18:09.399
Okay.

1364
01:18:10.720 --> 01:18:13.039
But I will say the marketing has been genius because

1365
01:18:13.079 --> 01:18:14.880
when they put that out on DVD in the early

1366
01:18:14.920 --> 01:18:17.479
two thousands, they made the DVD look like it was

1367
01:18:17.520 --> 01:18:20.000
basically like in a paper bag, like it was like,

1368
01:18:20.079 --> 01:18:26.119
you know, it was secret. But that film, like others

1369
01:18:26.119 --> 01:18:28.880
in the topic, relied on special effects to simulate murder.

1370
01:18:29.479 --> 01:18:32.680
According to the fact checking website Snopes, there was never

1371
01:18:32.760 --> 01:18:35.439
there has never been a verified example of a genuine,

1372
01:18:35.439 --> 01:18:40.760
commercially produced snuff film. Videos of actual murders, such as beheadings,

1373
01:18:41.119 --> 01:18:44.520
have been made available to the public, generally through the Internet. However,

1374
01:18:44.560 --> 01:18:47.680
those videos have been made and broadcast by the murderers

1375
01:18:47.720 --> 01:18:51.720
either for their own gratification or for propaganda purposes, and

1376
01:18:51.760 --> 01:18:55.840
not for financial gain, and thus do not qualify, according

1377
01:18:55.880 --> 01:18:57.760
to one author, as a snuff film.

1378
01:18:58.359 --> 01:19:02.039
Hmm, so it has to be financial gainwise.

1379
01:19:03.359 --> 01:19:06.039
The idea is that it's for business, it's for entertainment.

1380
01:19:06.159 --> 01:19:09.760
Entertainment is generally for financial gain. Yeah, okay. The way

1381
01:19:09.760 --> 01:19:11.439
it was always explained to me was that the murder

1382
01:19:11.479 --> 01:19:14.960
had to be for the sake of entertainment. Okay, Like

1383
01:19:15.000 --> 01:19:16.880
if there was no camera, there would be no murder.

1384
01:19:19.439 --> 01:19:21.359
But to go into the definitions a little bit more,

1385
01:19:21.399 --> 01:19:23.199
it says here a snuff film is a movie and

1386
01:19:23.239 --> 01:19:25.399
a purported genre of films in which a person is

1387
01:19:25.399 --> 01:19:28.760
actually murdered, though some variations of the definition may include

1388
01:19:28.840 --> 01:19:33.359
films that show people dying by suicide. According to existing definitions,

1389
01:19:33.399 --> 01:19:36.720
snuff films can be pornographic and are made for financial gain,

1390
01:19:36.760 --> 01:19:40.720
but are supposedly quote circulated amongst a jaded few for

1391
01:19:40.760 --> 01:19:45.119
the purpose of entertainment. The Collins English Dictionary defines a

1392
01:19:45.119 --> 01:19:48.239
snuff movie as quote a pornographic film in which an

1393
01:19:48.279 --> 01:19:54.119
unsuspecting actress or actor is murdered the climax of the film.

1394
01:19:54.399 --> 01:19:57.039
The Cambridge Dictionary defines it more broadly as quote a

1395
01:19:57.119 --> 01:19:59.239
violent film that shows a real murder.

1396
01:20:01.479 --> 01:20:01.800
Okay.

1397
01:20:02.640 --> 01:20:06.840
Horror film magazine Fangoria define stuff movies as quote films

1398
01:20:06.880 --> 01:20:09.319
in which a person is killed on camera. The death

1399
01:20:09.399 --> 01:20:12.159
is premeditated with the purpose of purpose of being filmed

1400
01:20:12.159 --> 01:20:14.960
in order to make money. Oftentimes there is a sexual

1401
01:20:15.039 --> 01:20:17.399
aspect to the murder, either on film, as in a

1402
01:20:17.479 --> 01:20:20.960
porn scene that ends horribly, or that the final project

1403
01:20:21.039 --> 01:20:24.920
is used for sexual gratification. Films featuring death that are

1404
01:20:24.920 --> 01:20:29.039
authentic but accidental quote are not considered stuff because the

1405
01:20:29.119 --> 01:20:32.319
deaths were not planned. Other death on videos, such as

1406
01:20:32.399 --> 01:20:36.159
terrorist beheading victims, are done to fulfill an ideology, not

1407
01:20:36.319 --> 01:20:37.079
to earn money.

1408
01:20:38.359 --> 01:20:40.800
Okay, like you said earlier, Yeah.

1409
01:20:40.680 --> 01:20:43.920
Yeah, And that's one thing that's kind of important to

1410
01:20:44.000 --> 01:20:47.119
keep in mind about the concept behind stuff movies, because

1411
01:20:47.119 --> 01:20:49.800
I hear people talk all the time about like do

1412
01:20:49.840 --> 01:20:52.960
they exist or whatever. There was an entire market where

1413
01:20:53.000 --> 01:20:56.840
people were making fake ones for these collectors, these like

1414
01:20:57.079 --> 01:20:59.760
rich collectors, so they thought they were getting something, you know,

1415
01:21:00.000 --> 01:21:05.199
heinously special, I guess is a way to put it. Yeah,

1416
01:21:05.279 --> 01:21:09.039
And in reality they were getting fleeced because, I mean,

1417
01:21:09.079 --> 01:21:12.039
the only thing stupider than killing somebody would be filming killing.

1418
01:21:11.920 --> 01:21:14.720
Somebody exactly why would you do that?

1419
01:21:16.520 --> 01:21:21.720
So, but there are a lot of misconceptions, especially when

1420
01:21:21.720 --> 01:21:24.720
the movie eight Millimeter with Nicholas Cage came out, because

1421
01:21:24.720 --> 01:21:26.920
that was a movie about a private investigator being hired

1422
01:21:26.960 --> 01:21:31.199
to determine if a snuff movie was legitimate or not. Okay,

1423
01:21:32.079 --> 01:21:34.399
and that movie, I mean, the setting is really interesting.

1424
01:21:34.439 --> 01:21:36.960
He gets called by this woman who's a widow of

1425
01:21:37.000 --> 01:21:40.239
an extremely rich man, and when she was going through

1426
01:21:40.279 --> 01:21:42.760
his things, she found like his porno stash or whatever,

1427
01:21:42.800 --> 01:21:44.680
and she was like, well, whatever, we've been married forty

1428
01:21:44.680 --> 01:21:46.840
five years, blah blah blah. But she found this eight

1429
01:21:46.880 --> 01:21:50.640
millimeter film strip and it appears to be a man

1430
01:21:50.840 --> 01:21:51.960
murdering a young girl.

1431
01:21:52.800 --> 01:21:53.840
Huh.

1432
01:21:53.880 --> 01:21:57.560
And she was obviously terrified and needed to know like,

1433
01:21:58.000 --> 01:22:02.399
did my husband actually by a film of somebody being killed?

1434
01:22:03.000 --> 01:22:03.119
Right?

1435
01:22:04.039 --> 01:22:07.479
And I will say, like, as far as the realism aspect,

1436
01:22:07.880 --> 01:22:10.319
it's pretty far fetched. But the element of like a

1437
01:22:10.439 --> 01:22:12.640
rich person, because the idea was that like this had

1438
01:22:12.640 --> 01:22:15.680
not been commercially distributed like it had been. He had

1439
01:22:15.680 --> 01:22:18.279
commissioned it and it had been handed over to him

1440
01:22:18.800 --> 01:22:22.119
like that was it. That element I found somewhat believable

1441
01:22:22.119 --> 01:22:24.079
that like, if something like this existed and was going

1442
01:22:24.079 --> 01:22:28.279
to not cause arrests and cause like you know, a

1443
01:22:28.279 --> 01:22:31.199
big whatever, it would have to be extremely private. It

1444
01:22:31.600 --> 01:22:33.640
have to be like you film it and then hand

1445
01:22:33.680 --> 01:22:38.439
the film to me the end like, that's it. But

1446
01:22:38.520 --> 01:22:41.439
as far as the reality aspect. On Wikipedia, they say

1447
01:22:41.479 --> 01:22:44.560
some filmed records of executions and deaths in war exist,

1448
01:22:44.920 --> 01:22:47.399
but in those cases the death was not specifically staged

1449
01:22:47.399 --> 01:22:50.439
for entertainment. There have been a number of amateur made

1450
01:22:50.520 --> 01:22:53.439
stuff films available on the Internet. However, such videos are

1451
01:22:53.479 --> 01:22:56.560
produced by the murderers to make an impact on their audience.

1452
01:22:57.640 --> 01:23:01.000
Some specialized websites show videos of actual killings for profit,

1453
01:23:01.359 --> 01:23:04.760
as their shock value will attract an audience, but these

1454
01:23:04.800 --> 01:23:08.119
websites are not operated by the perpetrators of the murderers.

1455
01:23:09.640 --> 01:23:12.399
According to Snopes, the idea of an actual snuff film

1456
01:23:12.439 --> 01:23:17.920
industry clandestinely producing such entertainment for monetary gain is preposterous

1457
01:23:17.960 --> 01:23:21.800
because quote, capturing a murder on film would be fullhardy

1458
01:23:21.880 --> 01:23:26.840
at best. Only that's really a good point. Yeah, only

1459
01:23:26.880 --> 01:23:30.520
the most deranged would consider preserving for a jury a

1460
01:23:30.560 --> 01:23:33.159
perfect video record of a crime they could go to

1461
01:23:33.199 --> 01:23:36.960
the executioner for even if the murderer stays completely out

1462
01:23:37.000 --> 01:23:39.680
of the camera's way. Too much of who the killer is,

1463
01:23:39.760 --> 01:23:42.000
how the murder was carried out, and where it took place,

1464
01:23:42.279 --> 01:23:45.079
would be part of such a film, and these details

1465
01:23:45.119 --> 01:23:48.640
would quickly lead police to the right to the right door.

1466
01:23:49.319 --> 01:23:51.840
Though someone whose mania has caused them to lose touch

1467
01:23:51.880 --> 01:23:54.239
with reality might skip over this point, those who are

1468
01:23:54.239 --> 01:23:56.880
supposedly in the business for money would be all too

1469
01:23:56.920 --> 01:23:58.920
aware of this. It doesn't make sense to flirt with

1470
01:23:58.960 --> 01:24:01.399
the electric chair for profit. It's derived from a video.

1471
01:24:02.279 --> 01:24:05.319
Yeah, agreed, Agreed, doesn't really make any sense.

1472
01:24:05.840 --> 01:24:13.079
Yeah, or dollars even, you know. And it may references

1473
01:24:13.079 --> 01:24:16.760
Fangoria here, it says Fangoria magazine described the very concept

1474
01:24:16.760 --> 01:24:18.880
as a myth and a scare tactic dreamt up by

1475
01:24:18.920 --> 01:24:23.600
the media to terrify the public. I would have to agree.

1476
01:24:23.840 --> 01:24:27.479
I would I would really have to agree. And we'll

1477
01:24:27.479 --> 01:24:29.720
get into more of the origins of this urban legend

1478
01:24:30.000 --> 01:24:40.960
after this quick break, and we are back talking about

1479
01:24:40.960 --> 01:24:45.199
the origins of the urban legend known as the snuff film.

1480
01:24:46.039 --> 01:24:48.199
And this is something I've always been interested in, obviously,

1481
01:24:48.199 --> 01:24:51.880
because my career is in film and video and right

1482
01:24:52.039 --> 01:24:54.680
and and and a lot of my careers in horror

1483
01:24:54.720 --> 01:24:58.399
as well. And there are people that believe, there are

1484
01:24:58.800 --> 01:25:02.439
that believe whole heart that there are stuff movies that

1485
01:25:02.600 --> 01:25:04.560
like you can just go buy that, which I was

1486
01:25:04.600 --> 01:25:06.960
fascinated by because I get why, Like, if you have

1487
01:25:07.039 --> 01:25:11.479
a little bit of an apathetic or cynical mindset toward

1488
01:25:11.520 --> 01:25:13.720
the world, you might just go, well, yeah, there's money

1489
01:25:13.720 --> 01:25:16.840
and there's cameras, so of course there are people who

1490
01:25:17.199 --> 01:25:20.560
film death for money, right, But the reality of that

1491
01:25:20.640 --> 01:25:21.760
doesn't really make sense.

1492
01:25:22.079 --> 01:25:24.479
No, it doesn't make sense at all. It's it would

1493
01:25:24.479 --> 01:25:27.720
be bad idea. And do you think if there really

1494
01:25:27.760 --> 01:25:30.680
were snuff films, we would know because at least one

1495
01:25:30.720 --> 01:25:31.920
of these people would have gotten caught.

1496
01:25:32.479 --> 01:25:35.520
Yeah, yeah, exactly. Plus there's the whole thing that like,

1497
01:25:35.560 --> 01:25:37.720
well they do them all in South America, you know,

1498
01:25:37.800 --> 01:25:40.199
because the saying is in South America, our life is cheap.

1499
01:25:40.319 --> 01:25:44.760
You know that that's saying that to an extent. I

1500
01:25:44.840 --> 01:25:47.760
understand where they're coming from with that concept, but it's

1501
01:25:47.840 --> 01:25:51.359
not It's not that life is cheap as in like,

1502
01:25:51.399 --> 01:25:53.960
people die and nobody cares or nobody studies it or

1503
01:25:53.960 --> 01:25:57.680
nobody looks into it. It's that if people get killed

1504
01:25:57.760 --> 01:26:04.319
by powerful people, they just make it disappear. That's what

1505
01:26:04.399 --> 01:26:08.319
getting away with murder is is making the evidence and

1506
01:26:08.359 --> 01:26:12.199
the accusations just gone. And it's hard to do that

1507
01:26:12.279 --> 01:26:17.359
when there's a fucking video of the murder. Yeah, being

1508
01:26:17.520 --> 01:26:23.479
fucking handed around like copies of the Watchtower. I don't

1509
01:26:23.520 --> 01:26:27.680
know why I chose to watch tower for that, but yeah,

1510
01:26:27.680 --> 01:26:31.840
thank you, thank you very much. The noun snuff originally

1511
01:26:31.880 --> 01:26:35.279
meant the part of a candlewick that was already burned.

1512
01:26:35.960 --> 01:26:39.960
The verb snuff meant to cut this off, and by

1513
01:26:40.920 --> 01:26:45.479
extension extinct, I can't read anymore. I gave up extinguish

1514
01:26:45.600 --> 01:26:48.800
or kill. The word has been used in this sense

1515
01:26:48.840 --> 01:26:51.880
in English slang for hundreds of years. It was defined

1516
01:26:51.920 --> 01:26:54.680
in eighteen seventy four as a term common among the

1517
01:26:54.840 --> 01:26:59.199
lower orders of London, meaning to die from disease or accident.

1518
01:27:02.560 --> 01:27:06.960
Film studies professor boas Hagen argues that the concept of

1519
01:27:07.000 --> 01:27:11.279
films showing actual murders originated decades earlier than is commonly believed,

1520
01:27:11.600 --> 01:27:14.079
at least as early as nineteen oh seven.

1521
01:27:15.119 --> 01:27:15.399
Wow.

1522
01:27:16.279 --> 01:27:21.520
That year, Polish French writer giermme Oponiner I think that's

1523
01:27:21.560 --> 01:27:25.079
I said, published the short story A good film about

1524
01:27:25.119 --> 01:27:29.199
newsreel photojournalists who staged in film a murder due to

1525
01:27:29.239 --> 01:27:32.880
public fascination with crime news. In the story, the public

1526
01:27:32.920 --> 01:27:35.960
believes the murder is real, but police determine the crime

1527
01:27:36.119 --> 01:27:40.880
was faked. Hagen also proposes that the film Network from

1528
01:27:40.920 --> 01:27:45.239
nineteen seventy six contains an explicit fictional snuff film depiction

1529
01:27:45.640 --> 01:27:48.680
when TV or when television news executives orchestrate the on

1530
01:27:48.760 --> 01:27:51.680
air murder of a news anchor to boost ratings. Hey,

1531
01:27:51.760 --> 01:27:56.760
spoiler alert. Yeah, Network is a phenomenal movie.

1532
01:27:56.960 --> 01:27:58.880
But now I know all about it, so I don't

1533
01:27:58.880 --> 01:27:59.560
have to watch it.

1534
01:28:00.199 --> 01:28:05.680
I'm fuck, She's right, But that's that's kind of the

1535
01:28:05.760 --> 01:28:08.760
thing is if you want to go, I don't know

1536
01:28:08.800 --> 01:28:10.920
if they're not really going to dive into that and hear.

1537
01:28:11.359 --> 01:28:14.399
But there's also the whole element of you had you

1538
01:28:14.439 --> 01:28:18.039
had what were called travelog movies, which were very common

1539
01:28:18.159 --> 01:28:20.680
in that era because the average person would never get

1540
01:28:20.680 --> 01:28:22.920
on an airplane in the nineteen fifties and sixties. So

1541
01:28:22.960 --> 01:28:25.119
you go to the movie theater to see the Amazon

1542
01:28:25.239 --> 01:28:29.439
rainforest or the wilds of Africa, or you know, the

1543
01:28:29.479 --> 01:28:32.560
mountains of Indonesia or whatever. It was all on film,

1544
01:28:33.520 --> 01:28:38.239
and sometimes they would capture natives, killing animals, or you know,

1545
01:28:38.399 --> 01:28:42.439
whatever they do that is not in step with polite

1546
01:28:42.439 --> 01:28:44.960
society at the time, you know, so that people would

1547
01:28:44.960 --> 01:28:47.520
be mortified they oh, you know, they're seeing all this stuff.

1548
01:28:47.640 --> 01:28:49.159
And of course anybody who like grew up on a

1549
01:28:49.199 --> 01:28:54.279
pharmacy's like yep, but yeah, that kind of stuff, and

1550
01:28:54.840 --> 01:28:58.600
the birth of what was called the Mando movie man.

1551
01:28:58.680 --> 01:29:02.640
I swear everything. Get me on any topic, and I'll

1552
01:29:02.680 --> 01:29:06.279
try and get it to Italian movies, because I think

1553
01:29:06.359 --> 01:29:11.000
that the Italy's connection to film, cinema and storytelling is

1554
01:29:11.119 --> 01:29:16.119
very fascinating. But I'll try and keep it brief. Italy

1555
01:29:17.439 --> 01:29:23.039
had a massive booming film industry because of Mussolini. No joke.

1556
01:29:23.600 --> 01:29:28.640
Mussolini loved movies, so he founded a public film university.

1557
01:29:29.279 --> 01:29:32.359
So when Mussolini fell and Italy was trying to kind

1558
01:29:32.359 --> 01:29:34.720
of figure the shit out, there were tons of people

1559
01:29:34.720 --> 01:29:37.039
who were trained to make movies, that had been trained

1560
01:29:37.079 --> 01:29:41.399
to make movies for free basically, so Italy became a

1561
01:29:41.439 --> 01:29:45.199
cottage industry of low budget movies, of just literally make

1562
01:29:45.239 --> 01:29:47.000
any kind of movie you can and get it out

1563
01:29:47.319 --> 01:29:50.399
and make money. And Italy became one of the number

1564
01:29:50.479 --> 01:29:53.640
one purveyors of these travelog movies because Italy was on

1565
01:29:53.680 --> 01:29:55.920
the other side of the world, so they were already

1566
01:29:55.920 --> 01:29:58.079
it was easy for them to go to Asia and Africa,

1567
01:29:58.199 --> 01:30:03.239
especially very easy. And the other benefit of those travelog

1568
01:30:03.279 --> 01:30:06.199
movies is they're all narrated. You know, it's just like

1569
01:30:06.359 --> 01:30:08.560
we are now in Borneo as we see the blah

1570
01:30:08.560 --> 01:30:11.399
blah blah. That meant they could just film it and

1571
01:30:11.479 --> 01:30:15.199
hand it to an American distributor, right, and they would, Yeah,

1572
01:30:15.239 --> 01:30:17.720
the narration would be done in English and they'd make

1573
01:30:17.760 --> 01:30:22.840
boku money. But they also discovered that if they featured

1574
01:30:22.920 --> 01:30:27.720
things like natives from around the world eating animals, killing livestock,

1575
01:30:27.800 --> 01:30:33.039
doing these like more vicious things, that the audience would

1576
01:30:33.079 --> 01:30:39.439
be more fascinated. Okay, so over time, actually pretty quickly,

1577
01:30:40.079 --> 01:30:47.039
the travelog movie became extremely exploitive. Sure, yeah, and they

1578
01:30:47.039 --> 01:30:50.079
started calling the Mondo movies because there was a film

1579
01:30:50.199 --> 01:30:56.479
called Mondo Kane which translates to Dog's World, and Mondo

1580
01:30:56.640 --> 01:31:01.399
Kane was one of the first known movies where they

1581
01:31:01.479 --> 01:31:05.359
kind of lie, like they would show the natives eating

1582
01:31:05.439 --> 01:31:08.119
something and say, like the cannibals of so and so

1583
01:31:08.239 --> 01:31:12.640
consume the human flesh of their enemies. And then that

1584
01:31:12.800 --> 01:31:18.439
evolved from from something as innocuous but still terrible as

1585
01:31:18.520 --> 01:31:21.159
lying about what you're showing and presenting it as real,

1586
01:31:21.920 --> 01:31:25.800
to what came next after the Mondo movie, which was

1587
01:31:25.840 --> 01:31:29.399
what was famously known as the Italian cannibal movie and

1588
01:31:29.479 --> 01:31:32.760
Cannibal Holocaust later on, was a movie that was believed

1589
01:31:32.760 --> 01:31:34.800
to be a snuff film because they filmed it as

1590
01:31:34.840 --> 01:31:38.119
if it was really happening in the Amazon. Okay, but

1591
01:31:38.239 --> 01:31:42.159
the Italian cannibal movie was basically like a travelog movie.

1592
01:31:42.159 --> 01:31:44.680
They weren't all meant to be believable, but they would

1593
01:31:44.920 --> 01:31:48.399
go to South America or go to Indonesia and they

1594
01:31:48.439 --> 01:31:51.119
would have real natives and then they would have them

1595
01:31:51.159 --> 01:31:55.439
fake being cannibals to shock people. Now, the Mondo movie

1596
01:31:55.479 --> 01:31:57.039
was meant to be believed to be real as to

1597
01:31:57.079 --> 01:32:00.960
where the cannibal movies were movies. But this is I

1598
01:32:01.000 --> 01:32:04.920
think valuable to this conversation because a lot of people

1599
01:32:04.920 --> 01:32:06.920
said that those Italian film crews, they would go down

1600
01:32:06.960 --> 01:32:10.279
there and they would literally like give natives things. They

1601
01:32:10.279 --> 01:32:12.680
would give them gifts or money or whatever was valuable

1602
01:32:12.720 --> 01:32:14.680
to them and be like, will you kill this pig

1603
01:32:15.039 --> 01:32:17.760
and let us film it? And people were like at

1604
01:32:17.760 --> 01:32:21.319
that point, is it okay? And it's like, I mean,

1605
01:32:21.319 --> 01:32:24.479
they're gonna kill and eat a pig sometimes like they

1606
01:32:24.560 --> 01:32:27.760
do do it. So that's very it's questionable. Yeah, And

1607
01:32:27.800 --> 01:32:29.640
that's the reason I know all this is because I

1608
01:32:29.680 --> 01:32:32.039
was doing a deep dive into why there's real animal

1609
01:32:32.079 --> 01:32:36.079
death in so many of those Italian cannibal movies. And

1610
01:32:36.119 --> 01:32:40.000
the reason, in part is it was just a leftover

1611
01:32:40.039 --> 01:32:42.840
from the Mondo movie. They'd be like, well, we're using

1612
01:32:42.960 --> 01:32:46.119
real Native America or not Native Americans. I'm so freaking

1613
01:32:47.239 --> 01:32:49.840
my own part of the world, but the real Native people.

1614
01:32:50.840 --> 01:32:53.600
And so they would again they would be like, well,

1615
01:32:53.640 --> 01:32:55.640
would you mind you know, killing the snake. You can

1616
01:32:55.720 --> 01:32:56.920
keep it and need it, you know. They'd be like,

1617
01:32:56.920 --> 01:32:58.720
hell yeah, and they just do it on camera, and

1618
01:32:58.760 --> 01:33:00.520
they put it in the movie to keep the shock

1619
01:33:00.560 --> 01:33:02.079
factor and the believability factor.

1620
01:33:02.479 --> 01:33:02.760
Right.

1621
01:33:03.680 --> 01:33:05.840
So I'm not saying it's moral, and I think I

1622
01:33:05.840 --> 01:33:08.960
think by today's standards it's extremely immoral. I think by

1623
01:33:09.000 --> 01:33:10.880
the standards of the time it was made, it was

1624
01:33:11.039 --> 01:33:15.119
very murky, especially by Italian standards, because you got to

1625
01:33:15.119 --> 01:33:18.840
remember that word totally different culture from them. Like, So

1626
01:33:19.039 --> 01:33:21.680
that's that's also another element. But I also totally understand

1627
01:33:21.680 --> 01:33:24.279
why some people don't want to watch Cannibal Holocaust because

1628
01:33:24.319 --> 01:33:26.039
just because of the couple of animal deaths in it.

1629
01:33:26.239 --> 01:33:28.479
They're very upsetting. They're not and there, and the movie

1630
01:33:28.520 --> 01:33:30.880
doesn't say, like, hey watch this turtle die. Isn't it funny?

1631
01:33:31.279 --> 01:33:35.399
It's it's not good that the turtle's being killed. Yeah,

1632
01:33:35.479 --> 01:33:40.840
it's meant to be gross and awful. So I digress.

1633
01:33:40.880 --> 01:33:43.640
I'm sorry. I should just had to get me. You

1634
01:33:43.720 --> 01:33:46.039
just had to bring up Italian film, didn't you.

1635
01:33:46.359 --> 01:33:46.920
I'm sorry.

1636
01:33:46.960 --> 01:33:47.199
I know.

1637
01:33:47.239 --> 01:33:50.119
I always bring it up, and then this is what happened.

1638
01:33:49.760 --> 01:33:55.279
So okay. According to film critic Jeffrey O'Brien, quote, whether

1639
01:33:55.359 --> 01:33:59.079
or not commercially distributed stuff movies actually exist, the possibility

1640
01:33:59.079 --> 01:34:01.239
of such movies is in splicit in the stock be

1641
01:34:01.439 --> 01:34:05.840
movie motif of the mad artist killing his models, as

1642
01:34:05.880 --> 01:34:08.840
in a Bucket of Blood from nineteen fifty nine, Color

1643
01:34:08.880 --> 01:34:12.800
Me Blood Red from nineteen sixty five, or Decoy for Terror,

1644
01:34:12.960 --> 01:34:15.760
also known as the Playgirl Killer from nineteen sixty seven.

1645
01:34:16.239 --> 01:34:20.039
I've seen all three of those. They're all pretty good, okay. Likewise,

1646
01:34:20.079 --> 01:34:23.119
the protagonist of Peeping Tom from nineteen sixty films the

1647
01:34:23.239 --> 01:34:25.720
murders he commits, though he does so as part of

1648
01:34:25.760 --> 01:34:29.279
his mania and not for financial gain. A nineteen seventy

1649
01:34:29.319 --> 01:34:32.000
nine article in New York Times described the character's activity

1650
01:34:32.039 --> 01:34:37.039
as making private snuff films. I mean, when it comes

1651
01:34:37.079 --> 01:34:39.439
to the world of killers, they definitely keep trophies or

1652
01:34:39.520 --> 01:34:42.439
capture the moment. It's the fact that they would never

1653
01:34:42.520 --> 01:34:45.439
share it that makes it make some degree of morbid sense.

1654
01:34:45.800 --> 01:34:47.640
Yeah. Yeah.

1655
01:34:48.039 --> 01:34:50.600
The first known use of the term snuff movie is

1656
01:34:50.640 --> 01:34:53.880
in the nineteen seventy one book by Ed Sanders, The Family,

1657
01:34:54.319 --> 01:34:59.479
The Story of Charles Manson's Doune Buggy Attack Battalion. He

1658
01:34:59.479 --> 01:35:03.159
did have a due buy. This book included the interview

1659
01:35:03.199 --> 01:35:05.920
of an anonymous one time member of the Charles Manson's

1660
01:35:05.960 --> 01:35:08.600
family who claimed the group once made such a film

1661
01:35:08.600 --> 01:35:11.600
in California by recording the murder of a woman. However,

1662
01:35:11.640 --> 01:35:14.359
the interviewee later added that he had not watched the

1663
01:35:14.399 --> 01:35:18.119
film himself and had just heard rumors of its existence. Okay,

1664
01:35:18.760 --> 01:35:21.119
probably when it was explained to them slowly that there

1665
01:35:21.159 --> 01:35:26.520
is no statute of limitations on murder. Yes, there have been.

1666
01:35:26.800 --> 01:35:28.960
There have been instants where I've watched. There was a

1667
01:35:28.960 --> 01:35:33.439
documentary years ago about those people who wear costumes superhero

1668
01:35:33.439 --> 01:35:38.119
costumes on the boardwalks in California, and one guy who

1669
01:35:38.159 --> 01:35:41.680
portrays Batman had suggested like that he had been involved

1670
01:35:41.680 --> 01:35:44.560
in actual vigilantism in the past, and like that's why

1671
01:35:44.560 --> 01:35:47.880
he identified with Batman. And he had said, like things

1672
01:35:47.880 --> 01:35:49.399
had gotten pretty extreme and he had had to do

1673
01:35:49.439 --> 01:35:51.039
what he had to do a few times in order

1674
01:35:51.079 --> 01:35:53.159
to you know, survive or whatever. And he was like,

1675
01:35:53.159 --> 01:35:54.880
but that was a really long time ago. And in

1676
01:35:54.920 --> 01:35:57.039
the documentary they go, you know that the statute of

1677
01:35:57.079 --> 01:36:01.159
limitations don't exist for murder, right, and he goes, well,

1678
01:36:01.199 --> 01:36:04.279
I'm not really saying anything. It was just very funny

1679
01:36:04.279 --> 01:36:08.279
the way I'm not really saying anything. We're gonna take

1680
01:36:08.279 --> 01:36:10.399
a quick break and then we're gonna look into this

1681
01:36:10.479 --> 01:36:13.920
a little bit more and wrap up this month's monthly Spooky.

1682
01:36:13.960 --> 01:36:17.239
But first buy whatever's next unless I don't like it.

1683
01:36:25.720 --> 01:36:29.079
And we are back wrapping up our little dive into

1684
01:36:29.159 --> 01:36:32.800
snuff movies. While Michelle rests her head gently on her

1685
01:36:32.880 --> 01:36:38.079
microphone so gently you can't even hear it. I did

1686
01:36:38.079 --> 01:36:43.319
want to mention that, oh sorry. During the first time

1687
01:36:43.319 --> 01:36:47.560
of nineteen the during the first half of the nineteen seventies,

1688
01:36:47.840 --> 01:36:50.560
urban legends started to allege that snuff films were being

1689
01:36:50.560 --> 01:36:54.359
produced in South America for for commercial gain and circulated

1690
01:36:54.399 --> 01:36:59.239
clandestinely in the United States of America. I feel like

1691
01:36:59.319 --> 01:37:04.439
we would know. Yeah, yeah, So we're going to dive

1692
01:37:04.479 --> 01:37:09.279
into just a little bit of information about the about

1693
01:37:09.439 --> 01:37:13.399
the film Stuff. Nothing crazy. This low budget horror film

1694
01:37:13.399 --> 01:37:15.640
Stuff from nineteen seventy six was loosely based on the

1695
01:37:15.680 --> 01:37:19.199
Manson murders, and originally it was titled Slaughter. It was

1696
01:37:19.239 --> 01:37:22.880
filmed in Argentina by Michael and ROBERTA. Finlay. The film's

1697
01:37:22.880 --> 01:37:25.800
distribution rights were bought by Alan Shackleton, who eventually found

1698
01:37:25.800 --> 01:37:29.159
the picture unfit for release and shelved it. Wow, this

1699
01:37:29.199 --> 01:37:31.920
is where it gets funny. Several years later, Shackleton read

1700
01:37:31.960 --> 01:37:35.760
about snuff films being imported from South America and decided

1701
01:37:35.800 --> 01:37:38.159
to cash in on the rumor as an attempt to

1702
01:37:38.199 --> 01:37:45.600
recoup his investment in the film. Okay, Shackleton retired retitled

1703
01:37:45.640 --> 01:37:48.479
Slaughter to Snuff and released it with a new ending

1704
01:37:48.560 --> 01:37:51.439
that purported to depict an actual murder committed on a

1705
01:37:51.479 --> 01:37:55.520
film set. And it's so cheesy, it's so clearly tacked on,

1706
01:37:55.760 --> 01:37:58.840
and it doesn't look real at all in any way. Interesting,

1707
01:37:59.399 --> 01:38:02.680
but Stuff's emotional material suggested without stating outright, that the

1708
01:38:02.680 --> 01:38:05.960
film featured the real murder of a woman, which amounted

1709
01:38:05.960 --> 01:38:08.600
to false advertising. That's the worst part. It was like

1710
01:38:08.760 --> 01:38:10.840
it was like we committed a real crime, but we didn't.

1711
01:38:11.000 --> 01:38:14.800
So it's like, hey, that's a crime too. Yeah. The

1712
01:38:14.800 --> 01:38:18.640
film slogan read the film that could only be made

1713
01:38:18.640 --> 01:38:23.880
in South America, where life is cheap. Shackleton put out

1714
01:38:23.960 --> 01:38:27.840
false newspaper clippings that reported a citizens group crusading against

1715
01:38:27.840 --> 01:38:30.600
the film, and hired people to act as protesters and

1716
01:38:30.640 --> 01:38:31.760
pickett the screenings.

1717
01:38:32.319 --> 01:38:33.600
Wow. Wow.

1718
01:38:33.600 --> 01:38:36.520
The best part is Shackleton's efforts succeeded in generating a

1719
01:38:36.560 --> 01:38:40.159
media frenzy about the film. Real feminist and citizens groups

1720
01:38:40.199 --> 01:38:43.600
eventually started protesting the movie and picketing theaters. As a result,

1721
01:38:44.159 --> 01:38:47.840
the New York District Attorney investigated the picture, establishing that

1722
01:38:47.880 --> 01:38:50.720
it was a hoax, but the controversy nevertheless made the

1723
01:38:50.760 --> 01:38:52.640
film financially profitable.

1724
01:38:53.359 --> 01:38:55.039
Good for him.

1725
01:38:55.560 --> 01:38:57.199
That's one of those movies that's like, not very good,

1726
01:38:57.279 --> 01:38:59.000
but I should like make you. I should like show

1727
01:38:59.039 --> 01:39:00.840
you that next time I see you. Just watch snuff.

1728
01:39:01.560 --> 01:39:05.600
It's not great, it's not terrible. It's fine. So here's

1729
01:39:05.600 --> 01:39:07.640
where we're going to go into the rumors related to

1730
01:39:07.720 --> 01:39:12.720
serial killers and things in that nature. In subsequent years,

1731
01:39:12.760 --> 01:39:16.159
more urban legends emerged about stuff movies. Notably, multiple serial

1732
01:39:16.239 --> 01:39:19.439
killers were rumored to have produced stuff films. However, no

1733
01:39:19.560 --> 01:39:22.720
such videos were proven to exist. Henry Lee Lucas and

1734
01:39:22.800 --> 01:39:26.000
his accomplice Otis Toole claimed to have filmed their crimes,

1735
01:39:26.039 --> 01:39:30.520
but both men were pathological liars. That's really true of them.

1736
01:39:31.359 --> 01:39:35.199
In fact, Tomorrow or Friday, depending on if you listen

1737
01:39:35.239 --> 01:39:36.720
to Do You've a Movie? On Do You of a Movie?

1738
01:39:36.760 --> 01:39:40.520
Or on Weekly Spooky, we cover Confessions of a Serial Killer,

1739
01:39:40.520 --> 01:39:42.319
which is based on the crimes of Henry L. Lucas

1740
01:39:42.319 --> 01:39:46.840
an Otis tool. So that's worth mentioning. It's a great film,

1741
01:39:48.479 --> 01:39:53.239
and the purported films were never found. Charles Yun and

1742
01:39:53.760 --> 01:39:57.560
Leonard Lake videotaped their interactions with some of their future victims,

1743
01:39:57.680 --> 01:40:00.279
but not the murderers. Lawrence Brittaker and Roy no Trus

1744
01:40:00.359 --> 01:40:02.800
made an audio recording of their encounter with one victim,

1745
01:40:03.039 --> 01:40:07.720
though not her death. Likewise, Paul Bernardo and Carla Homo

1746
01:40:08.159 --> 01:40:12.560
Homo Olka made videos of Bernardo sexually abusing to victims,

1747
01:40:12.720 --> 01:40:16.960
but did not film the murders. In all those cases,

1748
01:40:17.000 --> 01:40:20.159
the recordings were not intended for public consumption and were

1749
01:40:20.279 --> 01:40:25.239
used as evidence in their trials. Sure, yeah, so that

1750
01:40:25.319 --> 01:40:26.159
makes sense.

1751
01:40:26.359 --> 01:40:29.560
I mean, I do think it's interesting that they'd film

1752
01:40:29.720 --> 01:40:32.560
other things like assault, but then they'll like, yeah, we're

1753
01:40:32.560 --> 01:40:34.640
not going to film the murder, but we don't want

1754
01:40:34.680 --> 01:40:35.279
to get in trouble.

1755
01:40:37.279 --> 01:40:41.000
Well, I mean, I might even say they're not of

1756
01:40:41.039 --> 01:40:47.000
sound mind, but I don't know. Over the years, several

1757
01:40:47.039 --> 01:40:50.359
films were suspected of being snuff movies, though none of

1758
01:40:50.359 --> 01:40:53.720
these accusations turn out to be true. A similar controversy

1759
01:40:53.800 --> 01:40:56.079
concerned the filming of the video for the nineteen nine

1760
01:40:56.119 --> 01:40:58.760
song down in It by Nine Inch Nails, in which

1761
01:40:59.000 --> 01:41:01.640
in which Trent Read acted in a scene which ended

1762
01:41:01.680 --> 01:41:04.600
with the implication that Resner's character had fallen off a

1763
01:41:04.640 --> 01:41:07.720
building and died. To film the scene, a camera was

1764
01:41:07.760 --> 01:41:11.039
tied to a balloon with ropes. Minutes after filming started,

1765
01:41:11.079 --> 01:41:13.720
the ropes snapped and the balloons and camera fell away,

1766
01:41:14.119 --> 01:41:18.359
eventually landing in a farmer's field in Michigan. The farmer

1767
01:41:19.159 --> 01:41:22.399
later handed it to the FBI, who began investigating whether

1768
01:41:22.439 --> 01:41:25.960
the footage was a snuff film portraying a person committing suicide.

1769
01:41:27.039 --> 01:41:29.399
That's really funny. I'd never heard that story before me neither.

1770
01:41:29.520 --> 01:41:30.359
Yeah.

1771
01:41:30.399 --> 01:41:34.279
The FBI identified Trent Resner and the investigation ended when

1772
01:41:34.279 --> 01:41:36.560
it was confirmed that he was alive and the footage

1773
01:41:36.600 --> 01:41:41.800
was not related to a crime. In the Internet age,

1774
01:41:43.079 --> 01:41:48.880
allowing everyone to broadcast self made videos became an interesting

1775
01:41:49.199 --> 01:41:51.479
It had an interesting effect on the concept of snuff films.

1776
01:41:52.279 --> 01:41:55.079
There have been several cases of murders being filmed by

1777
01:41:55.079 --> 01:42:02.079
their perpetrators. These include Mexican cartels, jiehattists, all kinds of

1778
01:42:02.319 --> 01:42:06.680
horrible things. But author Steve Luliban, who wrote a book

1779
01:42:06.760 --> 01:42:11.039
on the Magnata case, commented that social media had created

1780
01:42:11.039 --> 01:42:13.079
a new trend and crime where killers who crave attention

1781
01:42:13.479 --> 01:42:16.319
can become online broadcasters by showing their crimes to the world.

1782
01:42:17.520 --> 01:42:21.039
Fangoria commented that Magnata's twenty twelve video, which showed him

1783
01:42:21.079 --> 01:42:23.560
mutilating the corpse of his victim, was the closest thing

1784
01:42:23.600 --> 01:42:27.479
in existence to an actual stuff movie, especially as Magnata

1785
01:42:27.680 --> 01:42:30.159
had done some crude editing and used a song as

1786
01:42:30.199 --> 01:42:34.720
a soundtrack. Wow yeah, that is I remember vaguely hearing

1787
01:42:34.720 --> 01:42:40.520
about that that they actually like edited the murder. Wow yeah. However,

1788
01:42:40.560 --> 01:42:43.319
it did not show the murder itself, and was originally

1789
01:42:43.319 --> 01:42:48.800
published to attract attention. So I guess it's a trailer

1790
01:42:49.159 --> 01:42:52.439
to murder. I guess so, yeah, which sounds like a

1791
01:42:52.479 --> 01:42:57.159
great like old school radio drama, a trailer to murder.

1792
01:42:59.199 --> 01:43:02.680
The charges of which Magnata was found guilty included publishing

1793
01:43:02.680 --> 01:43:07.159
obscene materials. In twenty sixteen, the owner of bestgore dot com,

1794
01:43:07.199 --> 01:43:10.039
the website that originally hosted the video, pleaded guilty to

1795
01:43:10.079 --> 01:43:12.199
an obscenity charge and was sentenced to a six month

1796
01:43:12.239 --> 01:43:17.720
conditional sentence, half of which was served under house arrest. So,

1797
01:43:18.880 --> 01:43:20.479
I mean, there's a whole thing. I mean, do you

1798
01:43:20.520 --> 01:43:22.600
remember when you were a kid, even if you didn't

1799
01:43:22.600 --> 01:43:24.880
go to them, but do you remember the true the

1800
01:43:24.920 --> 01:43:33.399
real gore sites, like really like something awful. There were

1801
01:43:33.399 --> 01:43:34.920
a lot of those sites where I mean, I'm not

1802
01:43:34.920 --> 01:43:36.640
saying I was not I of a weak stomach. I

1803
01:43:36.680 --> 01:43:38.880
would admit if I was on those sites. They were

1804
01:43:38.920 --> 01:43:42.399
pretty heinous. It was not very interested, but they were

1805
01:43:42.399 --> 01:43:43.199
all over the place.

1806
01:43:43.680 --> 01:43:45.920
Yeah, I didn't really have any friends, so I didn't

1807
01:43:45.920 --> 01:43:47.159
know that.

1808
01:43:47.159 --> 01:43:51.840
That's good, that's for the best. Also, in I want

1809
01:43:51.840 --> 01:43:55.720
to mention a few worthwhile mentions on the movies that

1810
01:43:55.760 --> 01:43:59.159
people thought were stuff films even though they weren't. Faces

1811
01:43:59.159 --> 01:44:01.039
of Death from nineteen seventy eight, which was like a

1812
01:44:01.079 --> 01:44:05.600
fake documentary that featured fake and real instances of death

1813
01:44:05.720 --> 01:44:10.960
in it. The fake ones were very clearly fake, and

1814
01:44:11.000 --> 01:44:13.680
the real ones were so clearly real because they weren't

1815
01:44:13.720 --> 01:44:16.920
filmed well, they weren't lit well. They were very obviously

1816
01:44:17.119 --> 01:44:20.960
news sources and things like that. But that movie drove

1817
01:44:21.000 --> 01:44:22.680
people crazy. People were like, oh my god, you have

1818
01:44:22.720 --> 01:44:24.399
to see Faces of Death because you see like real

1819
01:44:24.439 --> 01:44:26.600
death in it, and blah blah blah blah blah. And

1820
01:44:26.680 --> 01:44:29.520
the later ones just became like best of compilations of

1821
01:44:29.760 --> 01:44:33.079
horrible accidents and stuff like that, kind of like Fail

1822
01:44:33.239 --> 01:44:37.920
Army if it were run by Satan. Then there were

1823
01:44:37.920 --> 01:44:41.279
the Guinea Pig films, which came from Japan, and the

1824
01:44:41.279 --> 01:44:44.279
first one kind of almost seemed like it could have

1825
01:44:44.319 --> 01:44:48.520
been just somebody filming a woman being tortured, although it

1826
01:44:48.560 --> 01:44:51.319
did have like editing and soundtrack. I think it looked

1827
01:44:51.319 --> 01:44:53.920
like a movie overall, but famously it was I think

1828
01:44:53.920 --> 01:44:56.880
in nineteen ninety one, Charlie Sheen, of all people became

1829
01:44:57.000 --> 01:45:00.600
convinced that one of the Guinea Pigs movies, I think

1830
01:45:00.680 --> 01:45:04.560
was the second one, was an actual murder, and he

1831
01:45:04.640 --> 01:45:09.479
contacted the FBI. He investigated the film.

1832
01:45:09.960 --> 01:45:10.199
Wow.

1833
01:45:10.680 --> 01:45:14.520
Luckily, the producers had released a making of video of

1834
01:45:14.600 --> 01:45:16.600
like how they made the movie, so once they saw that,

1835
01:45:16.600 --> 01:45:19.920
they were like, oh, okay, you're fine. Yeah. And then

1836
01:45:19.960 --> 01:45:21.680
the other one that I think is really worth mentioning

1837
01:45:21.680 --> 01:45:24.239
before we wrap up is Cannibal Holocaust. Like I said,

1838
01:45:24.239 --> 01:45:26.079
one of my favorite movies of all time, believe it

1839
01:45:26.159 --> 01:45:29.159
or not, directed by Rogiero da Dado, who I once

1840
01:45:29.199 --> 01:45:31.000
stood next to while we were waiting for a fire

1841
01:45:31.039 --> 01:45:33.960
alarm to be shut off at a convention. People always

1842
01:45:33.960 --> 01:45:35.439
said like, did you talk to him, Like, No, I

1843
01:45:35.640 --> 01:45:40.000
do not speak Italian, Yeah, he speaks No. As far

1844
01:45:40.000 --> 01:45:42.319
as I knew, he spoke no English. He's passed away since.

1845
01:45:43.840 --> 01:45:47.760
But the Italian director, Rogeo da Dada was actually charged

1846
01:45:49.159 --> 01:45:52.520
with a crime after rumors that he'd actually murdered his

1847
01:45:52.680 --> 01:45:57.600
actors in Central America. It came about or in South America,

1848
01:45:57.720 --> 01:45:59.439
but he was able to clear himself with the charges

1849
01:45:59.479 --> 01:46:01.960
after actors that had died in the movie made appearances

1850
01:46:02.000 --> 01:46:04.479
in court and on television. But it was scary there

1851
01:46:04.520 --> 01:46:06.479
for a minute because there were people that had died

1852
01:46:06.479 --> 01:46:09.199
in the movie that like literally don't like it was

1853
01:46:09.199 --> 01:46:12.039
in I think they're shot in Brazil mostly like literally

1854
01:46:12.079 --> 01:46:16.319
didn't have like legal names, like ah, couldn't find them,

1855
01:46:16.439 --> 01:46:19.319
like they were literally like natives.

1856
01:46:19.640 --> 01:46:23.439
Yeah, yeah, okay, I was gonna say, because how would

1857
01:46:23.479 --> 01:46:25.640
you even like if they're just regular actors. It's like

1858
01:46:25.880 --> 01:46:27.600
they're not dead though I saw them.

1859
01:46:28.239 --> 01:46:30.119
Well, they were low budget actors, so you know, they

1860
01:46:30.319 --> 01:46:33.319
like you would have to like, you know, they weren't

1861
01:46:33.319 --> 01:46:36.880
like on Guiding Light or some shit Italian Guiding Light.

1862
01:46:39.039 --> 01:46:41.199
But yeah, I mean that movie. I love that movie,

1863
01:46:41.199 --> 01:46:44.680
but it is very heinous. It was banned in a

1864
01:46:44.680 --> 01:46:46.560
ton of countries. They claimed it was banned in over

1865
01:46:46.600 --> 01:46:49.880
fifty countries. I don't think that really happened, but it

1866
01:46:49.920 --> 01:46:52.840
was banned in a bunch of countries. And it and

1867
01:46:53.279 --> 01:46:57.199
unlike these other movies, Cannibal Holocaust is supposed to look

1868
01:46:57.279 --> 01:47:01.319
like footage they found in the am although it's presented

1869
01:47:01.359 --> 01:47:03.880
in it like a movie, like there's just actors in

1870
01:47:03.920 --> 01:47:06.359
a room that are lit and they're like, let's watch this,

1871
01:47:06.520 --> 01:47:08.479
and then they do and they show it. So it's

1872
01:47:08.840 --> 01:47:13.159
presented like a movie. So anyway, I just thought those

1873
01:47:13.199 --> 01:47:18.279
were some interesting concepts about stuff movies. But we have

1874
01:47:19.840 --> 01:47:23.199
I'm frankly exhausted, Michelle, and you've been making hand signals

1875
01:47:23.199 --> 01:47:25.960
at me this entire time, trying to tell me to

1876
01:47:26.039 --> 01:47:29.520
leave you alone. I know, at first I thought you

1877
01:47:29.520 --> 01:47:32.439
were just trying to tell me your gang affiliation. Yeah,

1878
01:47:33.319 --> 01:47:38.319
I still do. You just did a vulcan salute as

1879
01:47:38.359 --> 01:47:39.720
your Dan's gang signal.

1880
01:47:40.239 --> 01:47:41.159
That's our symbol.

1881
01:47:45.039 --> 01:47:48.039
Well, sheell, I think we're gonna get out of here.

1882
01:47:48.359 --> 01:47:50.479
I hope everybody had a great New Year's I hope

1883
01:47:50.520 --> 01:47:53.319
they're enjoying twenty twenty five as much as possible so far.

1884
01:47:53.800 --> 01:47:56.159
And I hope Shelle you get some good news as

1885
01:47:56.159 --> 01:48:01.199
best as possible about your allergy issues. So but thank
