Tarnished Gold: An NFL Quarterback’s Demonic Trial of Ambition & Self-Worth

NFL superstar Carlton Gold turns to a demon when interceptions threaten his season, only to learn that talent is not the weakness being tested.

“The Golden Dream” rose from poverty to become a first-round draft pick, two-time Super Bowl champion, and owner of a half-billion-dollar contract. Now three bad games have made him question everything. Mister Day, a corpse-pale fixer wearing the championship rings of former clients, insists Carlton does not need more athletic ability. He needs a very different kind of therapy.

Carlton awakens inside a sadistic trial where doppelgängers embody the people, obligations, and expectations that have pulled him apart. Every challenge forces him to weigh his body, career, family, fans, and girlfriend Sissy against the part of himself he has never protected. Mister Day offers no simple Faustian contract; the demon wants to discover whether a fundamentally compassionate man can survive choosing his own life.

David O’Hanlon’s “Tarnished Gold” blends professional-football horror, demonic temptation, body horror, psychological torment, and brutal dark comedy. Its real conflict is not whether Carlton can become great again, but whether greatness has left enough of him intact to oppose a supernatural manipulator who treats human virtue as part of the game.
