Six summer horror stories bring werewolves, deadly camp wishes, roadside killers, backwoods creatures, devilish music, and a zombie outbreak into the heat.

“The Wolf of Fagan County” by David O’Hanlon follows 13-year-old Conrad through a summer of mutilated bodies, family secrets, and monsters hiding in a small town. Killian Crane’s “The Lady in the Germ Box” sends bullied camper Greg to a portable toilet where a supernatural woman grants wishes with viciously literal results. In John Oak Dalton’s “The Devil Knows Three Chords,” bluegrass partners Chester Killbuck and Bobby Lee Starr carry fame, betrayal, and a possible crossroads bargain into 1968 San Francisco.

“The Rest Area” by Rob Fields strands Brad and Robbie with the axe killer they were joking about on U. S. 23. Charles Campbell’s “Wilson Road” sends cousins Tanner and Danny toward an abandoned brick plant and a black-furred creature tied to their family. Rob Fields closes the collection with “New Awakenings,” told from the perspective of a young woman who rises in a morgue hungry for brains and begins spreading undeath through Strickfield.

This is a summer listening marathon of small-town werewolf folklore, camp horror, Southern Gothic music, road-trip slasher suspense, creature attacks, and zombie mayhem.
