Sick with Rage: Raigen Devereux Hunts Strickfield’s Queen of Hearts Killer

Serial killer Raigen Devereux battles a 102-degree fever and a blizzard while hunting the murderer who removes victims’ hearts and leaves playing cards.

Raige is a police intern, the vigilante known as the Angel of Death, and a predator who targets people she judges worse than herself. When Delphine Brewster-Sloane calls about her missing husband Joseph and stepson Franklin, Raige leaves her dorm despite a severe flu. At Delphine’s house, Joseph is found hanging in the attic with his heart removed and a Queen of Hearts card placed in his hand.

Franklin’s phone and a secluded loft point toward Delphine’s estranged daughter, Rigby Brewster. Raige follows the trail through the storm to jars containing eight human hearts and a room where Franklin is being held. Rigby has built her own serial-killer identity around eliminating anyone she believes stands between her and Franklin—but Raige’s collapsing body turns an execution into a dangerous contest of secrets.

Rob Fields’s “Sick with Rage” advances the Strickfield Angel of Death mythology through a killer-versus-killer investigation, the Queen of Hearts murders, winter survival, and physical vulnerability. The richer title and notes name Raigen, Rigby, Delphine, Franklin, and the signature evidence without resolving who ultimately claims the other. Story by Rob Fields.
